წყლის რესურსების ინტეგრირებული მართვა არის უმნიშვნელოვანესი იმ ქვეყნებისათვის, რომლებიც კლიმატის ცვლილებებით გამოწვეული რისკების პირობებში ვითარდებიან. აზერბაიჯანის ეკოლოგიისა და ბუნებრივი რესურსების და საქართველოს გარემოსა და ბუნებრივი რესურსების დაცვის სამინისტროები წარუძღვებიან ჩვენს რეგიონში წყლის რესურსების მართვის ჰარმონიზაციის პროცესს მდინარე მტკვრის აუზში ერთობლივი რესურსების გამოყენებით მიღებული სარგებლის მაქსიმიზაციისათვის.
2017 წლის 6-7 აპრილს აზერბაიჯანის ეკოლოგიისა და ბუნებრივი რესურსების სამინისტრომ გაეროს განვითარების პროგრამის (UNDP) და გლობალური გარემოსდაცვითი ფონდის (GEF) პროექტის "მტკვარი II: წყლის რესურსების ინტეგრირებული მართვის განხორციელება მდინარე მტკვრის აუზში" რეგიონულ საწყის შეხვედრას უმასპინძლა.
პროექტი “მტკვარი II “ აერთიანებს საქართველოს და აზერბაიჯანის წყლის მომხმარებელ სექტორებს ინტეგრირებული და კოორდინირებული გეგმების შესამუშავებლად და აგრძელებს ორ ქვეყანას შორის გაეროს განვითარების პროგრამის და გლობალური გარემოსდაცვითი ფონდის მხარდაჭერით წამოწყებულ თანამშრომლობას წყლის რესურსების მართვის სფეროში. "მტკვარი II“ არის ოთხწლიანი პროექტი, ერთობლივად დაფინანსებული გაეროს განვითარების პროგრამის და გლობალური გარემოსდაცვითი ფონდის მიერ. პროექტის ბიუჯეტი 5.3 მილიონ ამერიკულ დოლარს შეადგენს. ადგილობრივმა პარტნიორებმა საქართველოში და აზერბაიჯანში მოახდინეს პროექტის 190 მილიონი ამერიკული დოლარით თანადაფინანსება.

Integrated water resources management (IWRM) will be the key to countries surviving and thriving under the threat of climate change. The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan and Ministry of Environment and Natural Resource Protection in Georgia are leading the way to harmonize and maximize the greatest benefits from our shared water resources in the Kura Basin.
The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan hosted the Regional Inception Workshop of the “UNDP - GEF Kura II Project: Implementing IWRM across the Kura River Basin” on April 6-7, 2017 in the grand Minister’s Conference Hall in Baku.
This project brings together water-using sectors from both Azerbaijan and Georgia to work towards integration and coordination of water use plans within and between the countries. The UNDP-GEF Kura II Project is a continuation of the cooperation between the governments of Azerbaijan and Georgia in water resources management of the Kura River with the support of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The Kura II Project is a 4-year UNDP-GEF funded project with allocated budget of 5.3 million USD. National partners in Azerbaijan and Georgia have contributed over $190 million in co-financing. Mr. Vladimir Mamaev, UNDP/GEF Regional Team Leader and Regional Technical Advisor noted that this project was the second highest co-financing contribution in UNDP-GEF International Waters almost 30 year history.
