ABOUT CLIMATE FORUM EAST – This program is to strengthen the capacities of the existing Climate Forum East (CFE) networks and individual Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. Furthermore to develop and implement adaptation plans to Climate Change on local level, to influence the National Policy dialogue in Climate change and environmental governance as well as to drive the regional exchange on acquired knowledge. Partners are the Armenian Red Cross, Azerbaijan Red Crescent, Belarus Red Cross, Georgia Red Cross, EcoContact in Moldova and in Ukraine the National Environmental Centre. Conference on Adaptation to Climate Change
Two days conference on Adaptation to Climate Change, which was organized in the frame of CFE program, took place in Tbilisi on May 17-18. The purpose was to share knowledge and experiences gained on Climate Change Adaptation and its sustainability gained throughout the planning and implementation of small-scale adaptation projects in communities of Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. These pilot projects were highly welcomed by each community and supported with active engagement by all relevant stakeholders involved.

Climate resilient sidewalks and informational systems in Moldova's rural communities
In Palanca community, Stefan Voda district, two local NGOs in partnership with the local public authority, are implementing two initiatives to increase climate resilience of the sidewalk infrastructure and disaster risk prevention. According to the local Adaptation Plan to climate change, Palanca village is facing such climate change events as extreme winds and rainfalls that directly affects the community road infrastructure. The risk of flood has a  high probability.

Why in Ukraine Hutsuls teach children to respect rain
During 2016-2017 in Bogdan village, one of the villages highly located in the Ukrainian mountains activities in reference to climate change were taking place. The biggest problems, as the events of recent years have shown, are destructive floods, mudflows and, at the same time, lack of drinking water, which is caused by intensive climate change, in certain tracts of the village in summer. Based on the local Adaptation Plan and the risks defined a reservoir for collecting rain water for houshold use was installed on the kindergarten in the Carpatian mountain village as one of the small-scale adaptation projects.

Energy efficient wood stoves in three Georgian municipalities
In October-November 2016, within the framework of the regional project “Climate Forum East,” II Phase, the re-granted NGO “Ecovision” installed 12 energy efficient wood stoves in the kindergartens of three municipalities in Georgia, namely in Khelvachauri, Ambrolauri and Dedoplistskaro. This was a result of the local Adaptation Plan that was jointly developed with all relevant stakeholders. The energy efficiency has been scientifically prooved.

Belarus summarizes the project results at the final CFE conference in Tbilisi
The final versions of local adaptation plans were presented at the final CFE conference in Tbilisi on 17-18 May. The practical activities of small-scale adaptation project implementation started in three districts in Belarus – Motol, Chausy and Sporovo. The activities that are based on the participatory developed local Adaptation plans cover a broad range from landscape design, establishment of  informational centers on Climate Change over to rain water harvesting in local schools.

How rural communities are increasing land productivity and adapting to weather variability in Moldova
In Mihaileni village, two recommended measures of the local Adaptation Plan for climate change have been implemented. The small-scale adaptation projects are about constructing a ‘model platform’ for manure storage and composting to be used by local landowners, farmers and as well about the thermal rehabilitation of two kindergartens to cope with temperature variability during cool and hot seasons.
