Training of Chemistry Laboratory Staff and Relevant Students of Georgian Public Schools

May, 2017

NGO Ecological Awareness and Waste Management (EAWM) conducts a series of trainings of chemistry teachers and schoolchildren of public schools of Georgia entitled “Registration, Safe Handling, Warehousing, Laboratory Usage, Utilization and Transportation of Chemical Substances and Waste in Educational Establishments". Trainings are held in the framework of the “Clean Up Georgia – Phase III” Project.

In May 2017 EAWM held two trainings in Gori and Zugdidi. Trainings were attended by chemistry teachers and schoolchildren from public schools of Gori and Zugdidi municipalities. The aim of trainings was to introduce the trainees to the modern methods of safe handling with chemical substances and materials: identification, recording, storage, use, partial utilization on the site, transportation and final disposal of chemical substances and materials kept in public schools of Georgia in inadequate conditions. Introduction of European Standards and dissemination of mitigation action plans and recommendations.

Project coordinators distributed brochures produced in the framework of the project: “Modern Safety Rules” and “Chemical Reagents and Waste in Schools”. The publications explain safety requirements of working with chemical reagents and waste, as well as recommendations on transportation and utilization.

“Clean Up Georgia-Phase III” project is implemented by a Consortium of NGOs “Ecological Awareness and Waste Management”, Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Orchis” and “Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the Earth -Georgia” with the financial support of the Swedish Government.
