Community Mobilization Meetings for Rural Development

were Held in Keda Municipality

In July 2017, Caucasus Environmental NGO Network - CENN, together with local
partner organization in Adjara region - Institute of Democracy, conducted
community mobilization meetings in all 64 villages of Keda municipality in
the framework of the European Union’s ENPARD project “Optimising the
Potential of Local Assets for Rural Development of Keda Municipality”.

The objective of the community mobilization meetings was to introduce the
project goals and a European model for rural development - LEADER approach
to local population. During the meetings, the application forms for
membership of Keda Local Action Group (LAG) were disseminated.

The meetings were attended by different local actors - local residents,
local community groups, farmers, cooperatives, local action groups, so
called AMAGs, educational institutions, enterprises, local authority
representatives, women, vulnerable groups, and young people. During the
meetings, the issues of mutual interest and challenges for local development
were discussed.

In the scope of the project, CENN will further organise mobilization
meetings with representatives of educational institutions, Mtirala National
Park Administration and cultural and community service providers.

The project Optimising the Potential of Local Assets for Rural Development
of Keda Municipality is financially supported by the European Union and is
being implemented by Caucasus Environmental NGO Network (CENN) in
partnership with the Center for Strategic Research and Development of
Georgia (CSRDG), Institute of Democracy (IoD) and Austrian Institute for
Regional Studies and Spatial Planning (ÖIR).

The EU is supporting agriculture and rural development in Georgia through
its ENPARD Programme. Implemented since 2013 with a total budget of EUR 102
million, the main goal of ENPARD is to reduce rural poverty in Georgia. The
first phase of ENPARD in Georgia focused on developing the potential of
agriculture. The second phase of ENPARD focuses on creating economic
opportunities for rural population that go beyond agricultural activities.
