Meet
other community members face-to-face in Arusha
this summer!
This
summer the Civic Charter community will come
together for the third year in a row for two and
a half days of workshops,
community building, and developing joint
campaigns to defend civic
rights.
In the very space
where the Civic Charter was drafted, activists
from around the world will share how they
are now using the Charter to build and mobilise
broad civil society coalitions in defence of
civic space.
Along with
providing
a safe environment to discuss the
best strategies for resisting
oppression, you will receive
training from experts on some of the biggest
issues affecting front line civic rights
defenders, such as digital security and legal
training.
Please
apply
here to join us by 23
March,
and feel free to reach
out to Brandi with any questions
about the meeting.

Earlier
this month, Hungarian civil society
organisations put out a call for global
solidarity to oppose the so-called 'Stop Soros'
legislation.
These laws
would further restrict the already dwindling
ability for CSOs to operate in Hungary by
requiring them to falsely label their work as
'promoting illegal migration', making them pay
exorbitant fines if they resist, and restricting
the rights to freedom of movement for human
rights defenders.
As
signatories to the Civic Charter, we must stand
in solidarity with human rights defenders in
Hungary.
Amnesty
International has organised a sign on letter
which already has the support of over 250
organisations around the world. If
your organisation hasn't already signed on to
the letter, please email
Cat Motoc (Catrine...@amnesty.org)
to add your organisation's
name. If you have already
signed the letter, please share
it on social media so that we
can keep letting Hungarian officials know that
these set of laws must be
stopped. | | |

The
Civic Charter goes mobile!
Over
the past months, our friends at Kepa Finland
have been working with a company called Funzi to
develop a mobile course about civic
participation. The course is designed
to teach people about the principles of peoples'
participation, with a look to how many of these
principles are being violated around the
world.
The course should take about
20 minutes of your time to complete, after which
you'll receive a 'Civic Charter Champion' badge.
We're really excited to hear what you think of
it, so please send us feedback and check out
Kepa's blog about why we should embrace
mobile learning platforms.

Congolese
Coalition for the Civic Charter speaks out
against arbitrary arrests of student union
leaders
In
response to the arrests and detention of student
activists who were peacefully assembling
at Ngouabi University, the Congolese
Coalition for the Civic Charter has released a
statement demanding their release. The
statement invokes the Civic Charter while
strategically citing where the freedom of
assembly and association are mentioned in
the Constitution of the Republic of the
Congo.

information about this action, read the full press
release in English here. Lire le communiqué de
