Right on, Dave, thanks for posting.

As a market mechanism for gov to charge the true cost of holding land
out of optimal use, LVT would dramatically reduce the number of vacant
and underused properties, thus reducing sprawl, increasing
neighourhood vibrancy, reducing the per-property cost of servicing
neighourhoods.

Plus, by financing programs through land value capture, gov could
remove the dead-weigh taxes on jobs and business -- a boon for value
added production -- more jobs, less grinding up of nature.

Trouble is, as the adage goes: Democracy is two wolves and a lamb
voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb
contesting the vote. Electoral reform anyone?
