Sub: Strategic Location of Emergency Response Vehicles.
The Fire Brigade Stations are generally located strategically on main roads in cities to cover an entire area within its reach so that fire tenders can reach the effected place at the earliest possible. It is felt that such stations can be made more productive and provide addition services to society. For example strategic location of recovery van and ambulances has always been a matter of concern. In Delhi non posting of recovery vans at strategic locations often leads to delay in clearance of broken-down vehicles leading to traffic snarl. Such fire stations, therefore, can be geared up to house these vehicles as well.
It is not known whether infrastructure created for fire stations, across the country, is being used for any other activity? It is worth examining if, without disturbing the fire service activities, these stations can be additionally used to house other emergency response vehicles. Stationing such vehicles at fire stations, due to locational benefit, may significantly improve the response time & coverage.
It is, accordingly, felt that infrastructure for fire stations which may have not sweated enough can be put to multi-tasking. At least all new fire stations to be created anywhere, specifically in Smart Cities, may keep a provision for these additional vehicles.
