Friends,

What  a bio-diversity park is like ? Do Dwarka needs one of its own ?  Lets first see one. Aravalli Bio-diversity park at Vasant Vihar Mahipal Pur ridge  is a beautiful  place of wilderness in the middle of city. It has lovely nature trails.

Sir Tony Legget, Noble Prize winner 2003 had once visited this area and was captivated by its pristine glory. In 2008, to seek its preservation, he wrote  to then President Abdul Kalam Azad ,” Having lived various large cities in four continents, I know how much difference a resource like Ridge makes to the life of quality of life of the citizens. There are very few cities anywhere in the world of the size of Delhi which are fortunate enough to have a similar wilderness area.”

Prof. Vikram Soni, scientist, environmentalist, and Dr. Shah Hussain, Research Scientist,   Aravalli Bio-Diversity Park, DDA shall be our guide.

Programme :

Date : 20th  Sept, Saturday

Gathering point : Outside police station Sec-23,

Rejimon,

Its an enchanting place. The quarries dug during pre indpendence days have developed into beautiful lakes. There is wildlife like jackal ( pic of 2005 attached), fox, hare, big horned owl, monitor lizard etc still surviving.  In 1996, a 13 luxury hotels project was announced for this area. And, it took a long citizens' movement to get that project cancelled.  Finally, few years back, DDA decided to develop it as a bio-diversity park. Around 10  days back when I visited it again, I found the beautiful nature trails developed with good forest vegetation cover.

Hope to see some of you joining us tomorrow morning.

great to see people joining in good numbers.Beautifully developed now, the natural wilderness give the feel of Sariska. The variety of species, including herbs was amazing.
Ravish Ranjan with his NDTV team  happened to join us too and was there with us  all three hours. Almost all those who went  desired that we have such a Nature Reserve in Dwarka too.

Many people who could not go this time will be going next saturday.  Those interested let us know.

Capt. Mann, Shobhit,  Rakesh Kumar, Tarun, Luvkush did a wonderful job in organizing.
