Dear Sir,
Sub: Road widening from IIT Gate to Muniraka.
We wish to bring to your kind attention towards an pressing issue concerning Outer Ring Road (ORR) stretch from IIT Gate to Muniraka.
This portion of ORR is over-stretched by pressure of moving vehicles, and the same is rising day-by-day. There are service roads all along this stretch on both sides and all these are not contributing anything to help main road taking off some load leading to NO USE. When there is heavy pressure on main road, there is no logic in wasting the area occupied by these service roads. At present all these roads are either being used for
(i) parking or
(ii) encroached upon or
(iii) Erection of mobile tower or
(iv) lying vacant as there are no suitable entry exit points.
Surprisingly, PWD time-to-time consume resources as well for carpeting these roads which benefits no one.
In view of above it is requested that PWD to carry out a project to dismantle the verge between main road & service road – just by doing this whole area would be available for vehicular movement and may help in relieving some pressure off from the main road. This widening is also required otherwise it will someday lend in the hands of land-mafia. In view of mounting pressure & pollution there is absolutely no necessity of maintaining these useless service roads. These can easily be merged with main road without causing problem to anyone. For most of the day time there is slow movement of traffic on this stretch because of parked/halted vehicles in front of IIT Gate & at Zia Sarai – by dismantling the verge at least vehicle will get space to park/halt at service road and avoid choking main road.
While on narrow stretches PWD spends hundreds of crores to make elevated road or over-bridges there is enough space available for widening the road at this juncture but same is not getting noticed by PWD.
Request Chief Engineer PWD be instructed to immediately carry out a feasibility study in a time bound manner and initiate the work. Please acknowledge. Thanks.
