New Delhi: TIMES NEWS NETWORK |
Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said, “I will tell Delhi Jal Board that if there is a water shortage in future, even VIPs should bear the brunt.Only the President, Prime Minister, hospitals and embassies should be left out.The rule should apply to everyone else, including me, cabinet ministers of state and Centre, and other VIPs,“ said Kejriwal.
The direction has been welcomed by many as VIPs, especially those living in NDMC areas, are supplied the highest per capita water in Delhi. “In case of a shortage, the supply needs to be regulated to ensure that everyone continues to get wa ter, even if it is reduced. For instance, if GK is getting water twice a day , during a shortfall the supply will be reduced to once a day . It has been a practice to ensure that VIPs are not impacted much during a crisis,“ said a source.
Sources said that since the issue of water is often political, it only made sense that the aam aadmi was not left to battle it alone.
The chief minister also raised the issue of water supply to the city from Haryana. “On order by the court in November 2014, water supply from Haryana had improved but as soon as the results of the exit polls started coming in and when AAP formed government, the supply was reduced again,“ he said.
