Esteemed Colleagues,
We are in the process of bringing out a Special Feature titled “Tropical Wetland Ecosystems” in the journal Wetlands. It is our pleasure to invite you to contribute research article(s) in this Special Feature within its scope as mentioned below. In order to bring out the Special Feature in time, we request you to submit the article during 15 Sept.- 2 Nov. 2019 to s.g...@cgiar.org. Authors of submitted articles will be notified by 15 Dec. 2019, about their status of acceptance. The Special Feature is scheduled to be published by March 2020. For inquiries contact: s.g...@cgiar.org.
Scope of the Special Feature: Wetlands Ecosystems in Tropics
Tropical wetlands are the most productive ecosystems on earth - highly diverse, and the basis of livelihoods for many farmers and local communities. Understanding the interaction between wetlands and their surroundings and the feedback between human and natural systems is very important for sustainable management. Tropical wetlands protect inland areas from erosion, dissipate energy from storm surges and tsunamis, and buffer marine ecosystems from terrestrial sedimentation and pollutants. These wetlands also store an immense amount of carbon from the steady accumulation of organic matter over millennia, thereby emphasizing their significant role in the global carbon cycle. Ironically, these wetlands have very high degradation rates since the last century, the reason being wetland loss and deterioration through excessive use, land degradation, urbanization, pollution, climate change, decrease biotic diversity, and invasive species.
A wide range of international, national and local stakeholders play essential roles in the management of these wetlands - for example, local people, researchers, managers and authorities. This issue invites studies of biodiversity, hydrology and ecosystem services of wetlands in tropics and welcomes interdisciplinary submissions related to the wetlands in the tropics. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to -
· Biodiversity conservation success stories or challenges
· Ecosystem services assessment/loss
· Wetland-based agriculture
· Nature-based solutions to build better resilience
· Climate change impacts and feedback
· Circular Economy and Wetland ecosystem
· Social-ecological-developmental connection and conflicts
· UN Sustainable Development Goals
· Wetland governance and policy
How to prepare your manuscript?
Please prepare the manuscript according to the journal guidelines - Instructions for Authors and mail to s.ghosh@cgiar.org. A cover letter indicating that the submission is intended for this Special Feature “Tropical Wetland Ecosystems” should be included with the paper. Papers will be peer‐reviewed in accordance with the journal's policies and procedures. Authors have the choice to publish with open access for a fee. Regular publications, including color figures, are free-of-charge.
Please find the flyer attached here and circulate among the interested groups.
