Post-doctoral position in crop modelling at the University of Missouri

Project: A postdoctoral research associate position is available in the Fritschi Lab (https://plantsciences.missouri.edu/cropphysiology/) to 1) investigate physiological mechanisms associated with soybean adaptation to water limited conditions, 2) collaborate in genome-wide association analyses and QTL mapping, and 3) participate in the establishment of high-resolution / high-throughput phenotyping approaches.

 

Location: University of Missouri, Columbia, MO

 

Responsibilities: The successful applicant will join an interdisciplinary team of researchers participating in the Missouri Transect: Climate, Plants, and Community project (https://missouriepscor.org/).  The incumbent will lead efforts to model crop growth and yield with respect to downscaled climate model solutions (NARCCAP output) for Missouri. The project will involve parameterization and testing of crop growth models and evaluation of the effects of predicted environmental conditions on crop growth and performance.  This research is expected to provide information that will aid with the development of management strategies and the identification crop characteristics that may be employed to enhance crop yields under environmental conditions predicted for US Midwest.  The incumbent will conduct research, manage and analyze data, and publish findings in refereed journals.

 

Qualifications: A recent PhD in crop physiology, agronomy, plant breeding or a related field.  Strong background in crop physiology and proven experience with crop modelling are required. Experience with model parameterization and scenario analyses are expected.  Excellent, demonstrated written and oral communication skills are essential. The successful candidate must have good organizational skills, is highly self-motivated, dedicated, and capable of both independent research as well as work with a diverse, multi-disciplinary team.
