Hey guys,
Just wondering if you could give me some hosts that are very cheap for
django hosting? Is hostgator any good? I really don't know what to
look for in a host. A lot of people are recommending web faction, but
its around $9 bucks a month. I was looking in the $5 bucks a month
range. Any ideas? Thank you.

Always Data (http://www.alwaysdata.com) has a free plan, but it is
quite limited (you only get 10 MB disk space).

Hi all,
It would be a good idea to check out hostrail.com which provides really cheap vps' . I've been using it for last 6+ months and seems to be pretty good @ 1.4$/month for 256 MB vps.
You can easily fetch some good promos to get cheap rates from them.

Seconding the suggestion of asmallorange.com -- one of the best
inexpensive hosts I've used. I haven't run Django on their servers,
but it can be made to run using FastCGI (there are instructions on
their wiki somewhere).

I use http://djangohosting.ch/ for a small company website and haven't
experienced any issues on the last 4 months.
It is a shared hosting account but the machine is quite beefy and
always idle :)
you pay 12€ every 3 months.
It is very easy to deploy django project there, unlike vps where you
have to configure everything.

I have used djangohosting.ch before and recommend them. As BR says it's
very easy to deploy, and I thought their support was super.

i've been using webfaction.com for a while for $9/mo with one click
django installs. You can also checkout www.slicehost.com if you want
your own vps and more control.

Ya, i think as a first timer, I'm gunna go with something that is non-
vps. I'll learn about preconfiguring stuff when the time comes. I
think djangohosting.ch looks the best. But asmallorange and alwaysdata
also look appealing. Thanks all.

Actually, I might reconsider,
What do you guys think of hostgator? They also have django hosting
with fastcgi, And there's is shared hosting. Pros, cons?
Thanks

Just as a side note guys, I know there are tons of PHP hosting providers out there which offer dirt cheap hosting, but Python hosting is *extremely* different to PHP. A lot of providers simply don't have any concept of how to properly manage a webapp deployment in production.

I'd really question why you'd want a cheap host in the first place. If it's for development/learning, then a VPS is a great choice. However, if this is for a production site, then this might not be the best idea.

My apologies if I've duplicated what's already been said (I haven't seen all the replies yet).

I put all my projects on Google AppEngine... works pretty well with django-nonrel  although sometimes there are some fairly significant concessions you might have to live with to go this route. AppEngine is free if you stay under the generous quotas, or a nominal charge if you go over.

works great for me. customer service is helpful.

more specific:

Django is already installed, howto page on setting up a project works
as expected, comes with ssh. all on the baby plan for $4/month (might
be more if you only get short contract).

I believe Django is 1.1. My only complaint is that default python is
2.4, but I have been using 2.7 (which is kind of a pain because I have
to specify it, creating an alias didn't work, as customer support
verified)

Can you please elaborate on the second part of your statement? What do
you mean by specifying what python you use? I've also been trained in
using python 2.7, will I notice a difference if I use 2.4? Thank you.

I was wondering if you can have multiple instances of an app and if you can manage your app at a level where you can restricted (IP address) access to the site with Google App Engine?

I've been really happy with Valcato Hosting which has all that shell

excellent pricing: https://secure.valcato.com/aff.php?aff=070

I use djangoeurope.com which is a rebranding of djangohosting.ch with
slightly different prices, I think. Quite happy with the service.

site5.com is a no-brainer when it comes to inexpensive django hosting. Coupons for free domain registration, and plans starting at $4.95/mo with unlimited disk space and bandwidth. What else could you ask for? And it's got a wide range of server locations as well (6 in the US, 2 in Canada, plus UK, Australia and The Netherlands).

No, i don't work for them.. I'm just a very happy customer!

Sincerely,
André Terra

We use Amazon AWS. If you register a new account, you can get free service for a year on their lowest tier.

How do you define free of charge?
I just checked dotcloud and it doesn't come anywhere close to what English defines as free.

Don't waste your time on installation. Just start using django framework out-of-the-box!

I use digitalocean.com. For only 5$/month you get a great quick ssd hosting.
