Dear django devs,

unfortunately the site where the #django IRC logs used to be archived
has been down for quite a while. I've tried to find out what happened
to that site but failed.
Because I think the IRC logs are an important source of information
for all django users I re-built the site.
I bought webspace and a domain for two years, too (
http://django-irc-logs.com/ ). The layout isn't very sexy but I just
thought it would be a good thing if the content was online anyway. The
site's basic features are searching and browsing the logs.

I hope you like my weekend project. I'd appreciate your ideas and comments.

Yours, Bernd

Also, on a side note, it may be that django-developers isn't the right place for this discussion.

Might be a good idea to do a post on django-users also, as I'd imagine that list would benefit more from this information!

Django-users may well benefit from this information, but the
underlying question -- what has happened to the Django IRC bot -- is
certainly fair game for django-developers.

The bot has historically been maintained by Brian Rosner; however, I
know he's been busy with work, so the bot isn't as reliable as it once
was. It's also something that (AFAIK) he's been hosting on his own
servers.

The bot and logs are a valuable community resource, and for that
reason, it's probably worth migrating it to "official" status, hosting
it on Django's own servers, and ensuring that it has a bus-proof
maintenance strategy in place.

I'll see if I can get Brian to put the code for the bot etc somewhere
public, and put out a call for maintainers to look after the bot for
the long term.

Yours,

Hi Bernd,

thanks for your efforts, in fact I've been working on a new edition of
the previous IRC logger myself and would love to join forces here. I got
the database dumps of the old logger from Brian, so we should be able to
get something more complete online. I suggest we put the site on
djangoproject.com, too. I'll try to clean up my code this week and put it online.

Jannis

Excellent, this was going to be my next question.

If I can be of any assistance for performance tuning or advice on db/se, then feel free to give me a shout.
