Not my idea but a definite +1 from me (unbroken link: https://github.com/divio/django-cms/issues/#issue/23)

Maybe also have a look at http://mixedcase.nl/articles/2011/01/29/django-cms-backend-usability/ and https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/django-cms-developers/aqRo88yiUtY for a bit more radical changes to the backend editor that might make these things easier without hacking any iframes (but a lot more JS :D).
