I can sleep at night, even during the afternoon sometimes. If its as simple as getting some ferrets, it would've only been a matter of time before some "bad guy" did this and took the world by surprise. To confirm, I think we're at an advantage knowing the mechanisms for this stuff in advance... I'm sure virologists are already using this information and thinking of ways to effectively target the flu so it's eradicated completely.

According to articles in Nature and Science, the thing that tipped the scales in favor of publication was the discovery of natural flu variants that were halfway towards the full complement of mutations necessary for increased transmission.
