DIYBIO Meeting this Friday, and Class Announcement! (also dinoflagellates!)

Upcoming hardware meeting this Friday at 7:00 PM!  I will be around to answer any questions about the bluegene project, upcoming classes, or biology things.

On that note, the next BIOCAMP101 class is going to be this July 20th and 22nd.  Also, if you want to buy some dinoflagellates, just pick up a dinoflagellate ticket and you can pick up your culture and care instructions sometime on or after the 15th!  Pretty cool.  You can sign up and get more information here, on the BOSSLAB website.

Quick overview of things I remember being worked on:

Few people are working on mini/cheap gel boxes and PCR devices

A water purifier and a vacuum pump that both need tubing?

A mini centrifuge with some safety removed needs a minor attachment to be easily operable

Adding streaming abilities to a microscope (has an Olympus SLR mount on it IIRC, possibly to either jerry-rig or 3d print something to put a smart phone)

In the vein of 3d printing http://www.backyardbrains.com/micromanipulator.aspx sounds like a useful tool to have

And the autoclave condenser tank
