Greetings all,

Some people have decided to meet up on monday to chat about building interesting biology hardware.  Incubators, water baths, PCR machines, and algae reactors are all on the table.  It should be pretty cool!  Come by, chat and learn.  From 630 pm onwards.

I will be skyping in.

Guys,

It was great to met others interested in hardware hacking around DIYBIO.  Sorry we could not get Skype up for out of town people.

I am planning on meeting up this Friday @ 7PM EST @ BOSSLAB to investigate the current state of the equipment at BOSS Lab and start tinkering with some of my own projects and getting the lab equipment existing up to working condition.

I am particularly interested in making sure we have a pipeline for DNA extraction, Purification, Quantification (UV Spec), and PCR in working order in order to amplifying interesting sequences (think quantified self and dna barcoding) and then shipping them off to  http://www.genewiz.com/ of the like for sequencing.

See you there,
Chris

V. cool. I think I missed the original thread about this (I can't quite keep up with the mailing list). How could I attend the meeting on Friday via Skype?

Also, what are you thinking about in terms of quantification? Something nanodrop-ish, or more conventional spectroscopy...?

Tristan,

There is a shared computer at BOSSLAB but I am uncertain of the state of a webcam / mic.  I will bring my laptop as a backup so we can pipe others in.

Please post here / email me your skype name so I can try and I will try and coordinate all interested parties.

Excited that there seems to be quite a few people wanting to get in on the action!  Go team awesome!

Thanks,
Chris

@ Tristan Re: Quantification, I was thinking about making something like a GeneQuant  http://www.labx.com/v2/spiderdealer2/vistasearchdetails.cfm?LVid=16837131#MoreDesc  I am interested in exploring narrowband sources and or narrowband filters with point detectors.  I would prefer to stay away from CCD / CMOS 1D or 2D detectors and full broadband detection and just try to get one or two wavelengths to start.
