I just wanted to share with you guys the process I am using for DNA extraction. I am using a 'kit' from saturn biosciences (i think) that I purchased though an australian biotech company. The kits work out to be AUD$0.95 per reaction. You still need to provide a tube to do the reaction in. It is called EDNA HiSpex kit.

Once you have your sample you add 1mm^3 to the tube, add some of liquid A1 and A2. Then heat it to 95C for twenty minutes, add solution B and the DNA is ready for PCR.

It isn't great for doing recombination as it produces ssDNA, but if you are looking for something to get you started it would be perfect because it doesn't require a centrifuge. If all you have is a thermal cycler, then it can double as your heat block in this experiment.

I was just reading that Mackenzie Cowell and Josh Perfetto were trying to reduce the cost and ease of this step, so I thought i would post it to this board.
