Ebay too. Just wear gloves. As you may know it makes small to medium sized molecules fat soluble aka can go through skin. It would be amazing if insulin were small enough to be applied the dmso route. Alas its huge...sigh.

Also, you generally don't need to sterilize it.  If you do, filter sterilize it, and if you filter sterilize it, make sure your filter is solvent resistant...or your filter will dissolve.

I'm not Koeng, but ours is biocryopreservation (by means
of perfusion with a sufficiently high molality of colligative
and noncolligative cryopreservatives and homogenous/heterogenous
ice nucleation inhibitors to allow for vitrification
of macroscopic biological systems at ~-130 to -150 C glass point).

I've seen dmso at most "hippy"/natural foods stores, in the soap/cosmetics aisle.

Hi,

Be careful, nitrile gloves are not suitable for work with DMSO, use thick rubber ones
(see http://people.ccmr.cornell.edu/~cober/complete.chemical.hygiene.plan.2000.pdf).

Hey Koeng,
If you're using the PEG/Mg/DMSO method of E.coli transformation, you can
do without DMSO at the cost of an order of magnitude or so in
transformation efficiency.

I've got the protocol without DMSO up here on github:
https://github.com/cathalgarvey/biohacking-protocols

Works quite well using Miralax and generic-brand pharmacy-grade
magnesium sulphate.

Thanks! I am replacing the calcium chloride method I have been using with this one, and I am trying it out tonight! I since my altogether project is to create an open plasmid for halobacterium, I will make this the method-of-choice when I get to making competent halobacterium. To me, halobacterium NCR-1 should be as easy as e coli to use!
