Notes

* #dataverse2019
   * Registration Open, Keynotes, Proposal form open https://projects.iq.harvard.edu/dcm2019
* Community Questions
   * (Paul) Custom Metadata Blocks for Projects?
      * (Danny) Yes, you can use Metadata Blocks how you want in your installation
      * (Gustavo) It’s a balance between the usefulness of project-specific metadata and what’s useful to all installations
      * (Jim) QDR did some work here and editing the Citation block instead of creating a new one was not good!
         * (correct, the citation block is one where the code expects certain fields to exist and if they change the app will break)
      * (Phil) Jamie's microphone isn't working but in the chat for this call she mentioned she's working on a metadata block for archaeology. Don Sizemore from UNC hit me up with metadata block questions this morning in IRC: http://irclog.iq.harvard.edu/dataverse/2019-04-23
   * (Jon) GDCC
      * Note has been sent to GDCC members about waiving the fee
      * Meeting at the Community Meeting about Governance
      * Collecting nominations for External Advisory Committee Members in the "GDCC Governance" doc linked from http://dataversecommunity.global/interest-groups
   * (Jim)
      * Thanks Sherry for creating the Google Group post. We also customize text in the database and didn't realize that as of 4.12 text comes from property files in the war file. (Jim created  https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/5793 after the call to follow up.)
   * (Sherry)
      * Challenging to find all changes using the release notes
      * Non-technical (plain language) inventory of changes would be great
   * (Danny)
      * There’s a workshop session focused on us doing a better job of tracking changes to the application (Defining Installation Types, Collaborative Outreach Materials, Engaging Researchers)
      * https://projects.iq.harvard.edu/dcm2019/agenda
   * (Phil)
      * https://keepachangelog.com has some best practices and https://about.gitlab.com/releases/ has been given as an example of a good changelog. I'm interested in hearing about other examples.
   * (Courtney)
      * Jonathan is presenting today if y'all are interested: Texas Digital Library’s free webinar series, Topics in Research Data Management. This month’s presentation is from Jonathan Crabtree, Assistant Director for Cyberinfrastructure at The Odum Institute of UNC Chapel Hill. Jonathan will discuss remote storage for Dataverse.
