Recently we heard[1] that the community is interested in a new GitHub issue label called "Help Wanted".
We also heard that we should start letting the community help with items that are higher priority[2] for them.
I just created a label called "Help Wanted: Code" with the idea having a namespace like this means that in the future we could add "Help Wanted" labels for non-code items like documentation or reproducing bugs or usability testing or who knows what else. Suggestions on how you think you could help are welcome! I figured I'd start with code, especially since we just made an effort[3] to improve the documentation for how to set up a dev environment.
I've only flagged 14 issues so far and I tried to pick issues that are relatively small:
(I'm somewhat reticent to ask for help with giant development tasks.)
If any of these look interesting and you want to help, please start by reading
https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/blob/develop/CONTRIBUTING.md and get in touch! As we said at the community meeting[4], we're happy to add GitHub usernames to our "read only" team so that we can assign issues to you. (We're also happy to add you simply so we can more easily @mention you in issues.)
On a related note, I'm thinking about listing the new "Help Wanted: Code" label with
http://up-for-grabs.net (or similar services) to bring in even more contributors. :)
I hope this helps! Thanks for the suggestion!
