Hi Dataverse Community,

Since launching 4.0, we've gotten great feedback from the community and some of it has related to the organization and displaying of files. Over the next two releases, 4.2 and 4.3, we are working on improvements based off your feedback. You can get a first read on what we are doing by looking at the requirements we have put together in this Functional Requirements Document: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1v-6WuFyClnAAHqyMf1VsWtCdXDTTR-ikuG6Ou8RtDMM/edit?usp=sharing

Any questions, comments, concerns? Feel free to put them in that Google Doc! Mockups showing what these requirements will look like in the UI will be made available soon.

One thing we are moving towards is having a unique identifier for individual files and we want to hear your thoughts on this. Using this GitHub issue: https://github.com/IQSS/dataverse/issues/2438, add any suggestions or thoughts on if we should use the database ID (what is used to retrieve files through the API), extend the persistent identifier for the dataset to include the file, or other suggestions.

Thanks!

Elizabeth
