La Venture Station Grand Opening Tonight...

Hi folks -- after a month's "soft opening," we're pulling off a grand opening tonight at La Venture Station in La Grange, Kentucky. Great write-ups in our local newspapers (Courier-Journal in Louisville published http://www.courier-journal.com/article/20110921/ZONE09/309210028/La-Venture-Station-gives-businesses-home and the Oldham Era published us as a top story at http://www.oldhamera.com/, but you'll need a subscription to read it, unfortunately).

It's always fun to show folks the space, because after they see it, they "get it." Some folks walk away saying they couldn't work in such a space, but others...well, we're growing fast. Just thought you all might be interested, as we're somewhat rural, yet located between two larger cities (Louisville and Cincinnati -- and the folks from Cincinnati, despite the longer distance, often visit La Grange more often). Plus, we're making mistakes, but they're minor -- thanks to all the advice that I've pored over in this group over the past year.

Hopefully now that we're really getting off the ground, I'll be able to contribute more to this group.

Hey Craig -- thanks! I posted that link to the La Venture FB page. We had a great grand opening -- over 100 people viewed the space and "got it." While some folks don't feel like a fit, they know people who might take a liking to it. Plus -- the musicians I invited love the acoustics in the conference room. I have a gut feeling we're going to have music during "off" hours at La Venture on a regular basis.

We had a great turnout last night -- tons of folks we'd never met before (over 100 people, old friends and new folks) who saw the articles in the newspapers and wanted to check the space out. Graphic designers, musicians, artists, Web designers -- a lot of creative folks as well as a few attorneys (we're just a block from the county courthouse). We'll see how she flies from here...

Hey Justin! Where are you located now? La Grange is growing so quickly, from 6,000 to 8,000 people in two years (still, 8,000 folks in the city, 60,000 in the county is small potatoes to some), that it seems the right time to do this. We had a more than a few folks from Crestwood and Buckner show up -- thanks to the news article. I remember one guy is a graphic designer and another is an architect, and they were both new to the area. It was great to meet new folks, without a doubt.

I am now in Atlanta, laying the ground work for a new cowork in then northern part of the city.  I am back to Louisville, however, at least 2-3 times a year - as my wife's family is all there!  Next time I am there I will definitely be coming out to see you there at La Venture Station!
