Buying Raspberry Pi in Bangalore

I went to SP road today and found that they have started selling Raspberry Pi there. You could get it with or without case. It costs around 3200 in Lakshimi Electronics (opp to NSK)

I remember someone asking here about buying Raspberry Pi in Bangalore in this group, but forgot who it was.

Good to know that Tenet has reduced the prices. When I was looking to buy it last year, they were selling it for around 4000 or something.

I would suggest you to buy only Raspberry Pi and then buy the needed accessories. That will save you money, but you can't get started on the first day.

the one thing , I like with the kit is, the cover for  the device. I doubt, whether I can get the case, alone. Need to look more and do calculation.
One sad thing is, this should not happen, when I am  processing Form-16 :( ..

In SP road find Vishal Electronics. It will be on your left side. Just opposite to Vishal Electronics there will be a small passage in a building. If you go inside on the left you will find NSK Electronics and in the right you will find Lakshimi electronics. I saw the Raspberry Pi with case in Lakshimi electronics.

Case is available in SP road. But one thing to keep in mind is that when you buy the case, make sure it has openings for the GPIO pins. There are a couple of cases that don't have openings for GPIO pins and it will be very restrictive.

sure. thanks for the hint. As of now, I dont have idea of spending much time in Raspberry-pi. I want a low cost system, to browse the internet , while my main system run without x-server, linux varient.

I have beagleboard [armv7], so, all i need is a monitor. raspberry-pi[armv6] is just an option. talking with friends, to share the buying cost, since it is not my primary need.

Nice to know that my blog was useful for you.

Unfortunately for me I am spending my time in Arduino and Raspberry Pi and haven't done much in stellaris launchpad. Should try to to play around it some time soon :)

I managed to located the shop today but it was out of stock. They did quote about 3.5K for it, though. I will go back for it tomorrow or Monday.

Which got me thinking - How do I know if the board would work fine? Do they test and sell the boards and is there some kind of warranty?

I selected business and ordered from there. It costed me a total of approx. Rs. 3300 with case (including tax, delivery). You need a TIN for this though. If you select consumer, you will go to kitsnspares.com and the cost will be higher (roughly 4000).

Arduino / Beagle / RPi / Olimax / .. .

- Arduino is perfect, hackable, reproduce-able, scalable platform. For
example, If one needs to add Ethernet/ WiFi / Bluetooth / any sensor
... , we have open solution for that. Many mid scale engineers have
redesign the board and made custom board (and those solution) out of
it.

- With RPi and Beagleboard, since they have PoP assemble, making
custom board is very (very) complicated. Getting Microprocessor of one
of them it self is tough task. RPi still have lot of binary blob in
Linux Kernel. On that note, Beagle and (most) olimax boards have open
linux kernel. Beaglebone and few olimax board having ARM Cortex-A8
without PoP are good choice since it is possible to make custom
hardware (having 500MHz+ power) out of it.

- I have not personally use RPi but I think RPi is good if one just
wants to add some more i/o and use on board peripherals and hack on
embedded linux software part of it.
