For once, a conference I want to know about, and it doesn't get
announced here :-) The programme is now up here:

https://www.conftool.net/cg2013/index.php?page=browseSessions&presentations=show

(In case that URL insists on registration, and you just want to see the
list, I've pasted it in below.)

It is over 3 days: 13/14/15 Aug.
Early sign-up fee is 200 euros.

I cannot find when the sign-up deadline is, or how much it costs if not
early.

Are there any other events going on before/after, in the area? (I mean
research presentations, that kind of thing; I know about the ICGA
events: chess tournaments and the computer olympiad:
http://icga.uvt.nl/wp-uploads/2013/02/RULES-FOR-THE-20th-WCCC-and-other-tournaments-1.pdf
)

BTW, I'm nothing to do with conference organization, but as a Tokyo
local, if anyone has general questions, I'm happy to try and help.
(Perhaps off-list, unless you think others will have the same question.)

I just stumbled upon a related event. It is the day after the CG2013
conference, same location:
http://entcog.c.ooco.jp/CGIW/CGIW2013.html

Hi Darren,

I intend to participate in both events.
Perhaps, the CGIW workshop will start already on the
evening of August 15.

A washing machine filled with many old single Lego(TM) bricks
generates random complexes. See a photo report on my first
such experiment here:

http://www.althofer.de/old-lego-in-washing-machine.html

In the Yokohama workshop "Computer Games and Intelligence
Workshop" I will give a talk related to this, entitled

Random Lego(TM) Structures and
Analog Monte Carlo Procedures.

It is all still preliminary and tentative.
Depending on partners in conversation, I can stress
different aspects of the approach.

* For Biology or Chemistry:
It is a Lego model of the Miller-Urey experiment on
amino acid formation in primordial soup. See also
http://www.althofer.de/miller-experiment-with-lego.html

* For Physics:
It is an experiment visualising aspects of entropy and
self-organisation.

* For "our" community:
The washing machine is a primitive analog Monte Carlo agent.
It may be used in interactive "generative design" procedures.

* For mathematicians:
It helps to visualize and teach combinatorics.

* For people from art and culture:
It establishes a new branch of machine-assisted modern art.

*************************
If I should ever meet a rich person from the world of fine arts,
(s)he might tell me a good 4-digit number, and I would sell
her/him the original "Art Emiele Miniature I", including a
certificate on its authenticity.

Ingo.

Disclaimer: Lego(TM) is a trade mark of Lego Juris A/S
(Billund, Denmark). My work is neither sponsored nor
authorized nor supported by LEGO Juris.

A semi-practical application: generate a sequence of random numbers. Take
digital photographs as the machine spins, and hash the images using a
cryptographically strong hash function.

nice application of the Lego washing machine. I will cite you with this
in the workshop report.
