Minix on Tandy = Hacking

The only problem with minix is that there is a bit of hacking to do for Disk
drives < 1.2Mb

Ps. Any 1.2Mb 5.25's for tandys out there?

I have an old Tandy 1100hd xt laptop that I don't do much with. I wonder
how much trouble it would be to get Minix to run on that thing. Have you
or anyone reading this known of anyone that's tried that?

Well...I got MINIX 1.7.0 to fit nicely onto 720k floppies, however,
MINIX has problems with Tandy's anyway that make it a not so viable
choice. It runs, but it's quite buggy.

It can be done. XT, 720K drive, 640K memory, and a hard drive is
all you need to install it and run it - and it's FAST!

Ahhh, I ran Minix on my Tandy 2500 XL (AMD 286/12 Phoenix Bios, 52M HD and 1M
RAM) it ran fine, except the BIOS/CMOS had some of Deskmate in it and I always
had to boot it off of floppy, otherwise I would get a 'NO OS' error. I was
wondering if it is possible for one of those 'Make it a 486' chips to work on a
2500XL, I know I Can expand the RAM to 4M and make it a decent Windows box for
my dad, but before I plunk down the $400 to do this I wanna know what I may be
in store for....

I've never seen the inside of a 2500XL, but if you can pop the CPU out,
you can 'make it 486'.

Call up the company, fax them, write them, and find out if they
have any notes about the Tandy's.
