My eyes just sent me the nicest thank you for trashing the horrid visual that is the Yosemite UI!!

Enough is enough. From poor font selections to the sadly pale, pale colorings, Yosemite as it exists in the beta just isn't meant for my old eyes.

Mavericks is truly a fine sight for old eyes!

Did you tell Apple about this? I mean that's the whole point of a public
beta...

Absolutely, I gave the feedback and told them I was going back to Mavericks.

Unfortunately from reading in various forums it seems I'm in a minority position. I guess most are younger or have better eyes. For me it was painful to view.

Yes, I am delighted to hear that you tried Yosemite on your SurfacePro
and sorry you didn't like how it looked. Or were you confused and
actually looking at Windows 8? ;-)

Your smiley noted.

I use my Surface Pro when I'm watching TV from the recliner. The size and layout is very good for that. My MBPr is mostly a desktop replacement as the 13" size is too big for real lap use in the recliner, I know I've tried.

As to how Windows 8 looks, well it is one hell of a lot better looking than Yosemite imo. Real contrast, real color instead of pale to washed out as Yosemite wants to present. And lines and fonts that are actually readable.

The overall flatness of Yosemite isn't a concern. I'm not fond of it, but it isn't enough to make me get all a dither about it.

You're not in the minority. Many people hate the silly "new look". It
was horrible on iOS and it's horrible on OS X. Unfortunately it's
doubtful that it will change Johnny Ive's fixated mindset and the only
way either OS will get back to looking decent and usable is when he is
no longer allowed to screw about with the software ... which could well
be too long. :-(

If I'm younger, it's not by much; I'm approaching my 72nd birthday. My
eyes might be better than yours because of my cataract surgery about
six months ago. But I don't find the problems with Yosemite that you
do.

Meh. Apple did add settings to iOS to address most of my concerns. I
suspect similar things will happen for OS X. These little issues are
hardly show stoppers for me.

You're a little older than me. I had my cataract surgery last summer
and it really helped in distance and clarity, but close up is still an
issue for me. Doesn't help that I'm slightly color blind.

I had monovision correction, so under normal conditions, I don't need
eyeglasses. For small print and/or reading in bed, I do. In dim
light, I do too, but I can usually use my iPhone as a flashlight to
overcome that. (Reading in bed because I hold the book closer to my
face than I would while reading elsewhere.)

I also need distance glasses when driving at night once streetlights
and, especially, headlights come on.

I just got the single vision lenses inserted. So its reading glasses
for me!! :)

I don't mind them at all and have 4 pair of differing strengths
depending on what I'm doing. For playing music I keep one pair at the
organ, the computer has 2 and my bedroom has one pair. I read in bed,
but on a Nook lit e-ink device.

My biggest problem with the way the UI is on Yosemite is the use of
shades of the same color to dilineate sections like the tabs in Safari.
The shading is just too close and I can't see the breaks. And the
very thinness of lines and font outlines is no joy either.

I've been using Mavericks today and my eyes are not nearly as tired as
they get when I was using Yosemite. For those that don't have these
issues I suppose Yosemite will be fine, even if they don't actually
like it. For me, I not only do not like the look and feel, it is
detrimental to my eyes.

Yeah, headlights give me some issues, enough so that I don't drive at
night much these days. Since I'm mostly a day person anyway that isn't
an issue.
