Now that Empire II is out and, according to reports, it not
directly in the tradition of Empire (though its designers
may deny this), I think it is time for QQP to re-enter the
fray. Battles of Destiny, a much under-rated game in the
Empire tradition, needs to be updated. Battles of Destiny
actually had some advantages over the later Empire Deluxe:
these included faster game play (units moving faster), ranged
artillery (I loved it), and air transport of units.
Let's improve the graphics, add more sceanrios and an
editor. A Battles of Destiny Deluxe could be the the
real heir to the Empire tradition.

There is no question that Battles of Destiny never achieved the
success of either Empire version. IMHO it is a superior game in
almost every way, many mention above.

I contacted QQP about doing a BOD 2 earlier this year and was met
with a very firm NO....

But with enough support and e-mail to them maybe something could
be generated which would cause them to reconsider? I for one
would love to see larger scenarios which would cause one to employ
Naval tactics more effectively, some type of disclosure of submarine
tactics, and Stealth fighters for just a few ideas.

QQP probably does not realize that this game is STILL PLAYED DAILY
by THOUSANDS... I personally CURRENTLY have 5 PBEM games going!

So what will it be guys? Anyone interested in a game that blows the
doors off of Empire Deluxe? Maybe an e-mail campaign to Q...@AOL.COM
is in order, so they will pick up the reins once again?

Anyone interested in playing an E-mail game, don't hesitate to contact
me.

Listening QQP?

Yes, but one more thing , get rid of the nuisance style copy protection !
I even found a crack somewhere , ran it, and great no copy protection.
After about 50 turns I was losing badly, when up came a screen saying - ' since you are playing with a modified .exe file
we have reduced all your unit strength points by 80% '. Very funny those Holistic Dudes !

Didn't QQP sell the rights to their earlier games during their legal
woes a year ago or so? I've been waiting for BoD to show up on one of
those IE CD's. Perhaps QQP no longer owns the rights for this game.
Does anyone know?

I too thought that BoD was MUCH better than the rerun of Empire called
Empire "deluxe". What BoD really neede was the ability to generate random
maps. I got tired of the same "worlds". Hooray for a BOD Deluxe!!1

Hello Folks at QQP,

I have been playing and enjoying QQP games for several years. Considering
the number of hours spent at my PC playing your games, it would be more
that fair to say some of the best games (as in fun) on the market have
been sold by QQP. This would include PG II as a recent offering and
Battles of Destiny as an older more distinguished classic.

It would be nice to think you people follow the Internet news groups on
games for feedback from your customers on your games and game development
ideas.

A current thread is expressing some disappointment with Empire Deluxe II
as a sequel to the original ED. ED II may be a fine game in its own right,
but for those of us looking for a true enhancement and update to ED, ED II
falls far short of this ideal.

The answer lies in a truely underrated game of yours - Battles of Destiny.
With all the games I have and all the money spent on games, a corner of my
hard drive is reserved for BoD. (Ok, I hate the manual lookup). If BoD was
brought up to date with sound and graphics (BoD II??) for the 90's, it
could truely be the legitimate heir to the Empire Deluxe throne. ED II
will not do it. QQP, the king of the hill is ripe for plucking - are you
listening to your market?

I have been watching folks casting their votes for a BOD 2, and we
do thank you for the praise. There will not be a BOD2 though. This is
something that we have committed to and their is no changing this
decision. Sorry guys.

Okay, well, I guess that effectively ends this thread. I would
like to suggest, to QQP especially, that there are 3 games that
the WORLD is waiting for, and for some strange reason nobody
seems to be able to deliver them, they are:

A good CONQUER THE WORLD game. It needs to be on a good scale
that allows for "zooming in" to conduct the battles, has
production, capturing of resources, allows for up to 4 sides, has
wrap around maps, and has a good combat resolution system that
allows flanking attacks, pre attack bombardment, formation
selections etc. Empire Deluxe is the closest game to this at
present, but the COMBAT system sucks, so it falls short.

A good IN THE TANK game. SVGA graphics, 1st person view. Command
of a tank, and the superior unit from a map. High realism levels
are important, accurate weapons modelling. A FALCON 3.0 of Tanks
is basically what we are waiting for.

A good AMERICAN CIVIL WAR game....etc, etc, etc...

Sorry to see that there will be no BOD II, but please design some
kind of CONQUER the world type of game. BTW, if you could do one
that allowed different time periods that would be great too.
Age of Alexander, Age of Napoleon, Age of WW I, and Age of WW II.

Thanks for your other fine games, BTW.

Jeb,from your description it would seem global conquest is closer
to your ideal then empire deluxe. It also includes "true" team play.
When we add wrap around maps will this allow you to reconsider?
Dave
PS still hoping you and MM will play more often

From what I remember BOD was not a in-house QQP production. BOD was
made by Several Dudes Holistiic Gaming? And QQP only distributed the
game.
So its quite possible you are unable to remake the game even if you
wanted too. What about it Steve? If QQP wanted to remake BOD could
you? Does QQP hold the rights to BOD? If so, will you guys let
someone else remake the game?
Regarding your so called commitment,a word of advice. Listen to the
customers and not the marketing dorks.

You're committed to *not* doing something?

What an interesting statement.

Well, BOD was done by "Several Dudes Holistic Gaming" which of course is
no longer connected with QQP...

Does the AI in The Lost Admiral cheat ?
When playing on difficulty level 11 it seems that the computer
opponent starts with many more ships than the poor human. And also
is the AI aware of hidden human movements.

OK, then how about this :

Hey, QQP, you know what we really want? A game JUST LIKE BOD2, except
with a different name, and with enough stuff modified that you don't get
sued.

See, now was that so hard? :)

One system that I would very much like to see is a strategic game with the
ordering of units/ moving of armies etc. that used the Perfect General or PG2
as a tactical combat method. Divide the 'world' into game boards most of which
would have some sort of objective to attack and defend but some would be
virtually objective less, and play out a PG scenario whenever two players
armies meet.

On reflection, this is the conclusion I have come to, too. I concerns me when I note
in the QQP adverts in Q+ the following words 'A Subsidiary of American Laser
Games Inc' (Hey, my eyesight is going, but if you put it anywhere, I'm going to
see it). I'm wondering if QQP is only the paint on the walls. I'm sure there are
one, two or even several holistic dudes out there who know what could be done
with this little gem. Then again, they may be out on the freeways in their expen-
sive sports cars or maybe running that model train one more time round the bend
toot toot.... Gregory

QQP has become a subsidiary of American Laser Games since February. This
does not change our committment to quality games. We remain as the
original QQP in game design and development. We now have access to
technologies and tools that we did not have in the past. This can only
mean one thing.....better games.
