I'd love to know what you think of it. I was the project lead for the
Defiance campaign, and designed and scripted about 50% of the Defiance
missions.
Hope you enjoy it, and remember Independence War 2 is on its way, too.

I'll be happy to report back after I have put in some time with the game.
One question though... How do you turn off "aiming assisted mode" (normal
mode) and get the lead aim point?

Yes, I actually thought this was a DOS game and wouldn't be able to run it.
I bought it just to take a look at the manual and see what the basics of the
game included. I was very much into Terminus when it first came out. I
thought that they did a very good job of simulating space combat in a
psuedo-realistic fashion. Something sorely lacking in other space games.
One comment. I certainly hope you got rid of the "either or" control scheme
of allow lateral thruster input OR rotational thrust input. I realize that
you can sacrifice your HAT (and I did) to get separate control, but you
really should be able to remap to other keys. For Terminus, I used a MS
Strategic Commander for lateral and longitudinal thrust, and the joystick
for rotational/aiming. I thought it was a great setup for piloting a NP
simulated ship.

You have to use the rapid fire mode on your PBC to turn off aim assist. In
I-War 2 you can toggle aim assist on or off for any energy bolt based
weapon.

You'll be glad to know the controls in I-War 2 are fully re-mappable,
including the lateral thrusters.
