Last year Apogee cancelled several promising sounding games, including
Crazy Baby. Now they have cancelled Ravager, another promising game.
Now all they have in production is Stargunner. Is this game to be
Apogee's swan song?

Well, the distinction you seem to be making between Apogee and 3D Realms
isn't really a useful or accurate one. 3D Realms is a sub-set of Apogee,
so its games are essentially Apogee games.

True, there does seem to have been a falling off of non-3D Realms Apogee
games -- ROTR Extreme and Realms of Chaos are the most recent -- but they
do have stuff in the works.

Well, I won't exactly start drooling (or spooging, as that seems to be
the popular term :) ) over anything Apogee anounces until I have it
sitting on my hard drive. There have been too many disappoinments in
terms of quality of releases and the cancellation of promising sounding
games.

Appreciate that I have been an Apogee fan and patron for many years. I
have just been disappointed with them during the last two years.

Remember 3D Realms (Duke Nukem 3D) is an Apogee company.

Based on Duke's success I'd say Apogee/3DRealms is kicking ass! Nice
work, guys. You are a real asset to this entire industry.

Hi David. Not at all. We're just focusing more on quality and not
quantity. Something we should have done 2 years ago :) We are simply
weeding out smaller/lesser quality games and putting our efforts and

Speaking of other Apogee efforts, what's the status of Xenophobe (?-
the fighting game). Can we assume the delay is to answer the many
criticisms it recieved from the beta demo release (like being
completely unplayable on 8 meg systems)?

Well, I have a 486 DX2/66MHZ and 8 megs of ram and I can run it just
fine, unless you considerable "unplayable" anything less than 200 frames
a second. I don't know my frame rate on it, but it is *definitely*
playable.

There's also a public beta of Xenophage, but I believe that's expired
(meaning you have to set the date back to play it). And, of course, as
you said, there are games in development.

It does seem like there are a lot more 3D Realms games being developed
now than Apogee games. That's because 3D games sell so well, and most
companies flock to genres that give them the most money, and Apogee/3DR
is no exception.

Appreciate that I am thrilled with 3D Realms, not only in what you have
produced with DN3D but with what is coming in the future (more BUILD
games, Prey, and I assume something after Prey based on Billy Zelsnack's
technology).

But I will miss the type of games Apogee used to put out if that part of
your company becomes less and less active, and finally fades completely
from sight.

IMHO, Xenophage was completely unplayable on ANY system.
