\ V / |_| | The most violent 3D action game ever created!
\_/|_(_)_| RSAC Rating: 4 - (The most violent one they give)
New Features/fixes in v1.1 of Rise of the Triad....
* Game is more stable and runs better under 4 meg systems.
We did all we could, but you really should have 8 megs for the game.
* Mouse control is much better and improved.
* Can set mouse buttons and joystick buttons to almost anything.
* Can select any key for strafing. All keys are now redefinable.
* Setup program more helpful and intuitive.
* Bloody chunks are more visible, stay longer, and there are lots more. Plus,
we added a "ludicrous gibs" mode!
* Actors walk more smoothly and slower (they're less jerky).
* Secret tally at end of level; track how many "secrets" you found on a level.
* All known sound problems fixed (Ultrasound, Sound Canvas DB, AWE32).
* Drunk missiles now heat seek after a short delay! They are deadly in modem
net play (though each of the drunk missiles is relatively weak compared to
some of the other missile weapons).
* You can now enter * and # in Modem Setup, for disabling call waiting.
* The select a phone number as the default number bug has been fixed.
* Keyboard no longer sticks after dying, restoring or any other time.
* Death sequences slowed down so that deaths can be enjoyed.
* Game instructions now included in README.EXE
* Auto-aiming for bullet weapons. Easier to hit guys above or below you.
Missiles still need to be manually aimed, however.
* Quicksave is much faster.
* Network games do not require an extra system to run as a separate server.
Any player's system can now double as both server and client. However,
games may run slightly faster if a dedicated server is used.
* 8250 UART now works in modem play, but you cannot have music. (There is
just too much demand on the CPU.) You can have music if 16550's are used.
* Character that "pleaded" for his life was modified. He will now steal your
weapon and use it against you. He will also "play dead" if you do not shoot
him. He also sometimes has a hidden bazooka of his own.
"This is the most multiplayer-friendly game we've seen, supporting both two
player modem matches and 11-player network-fests. In addition, there are
nine types of multiplayer games available with many customizable options."

Where to find Apogee's Games Online
===================================
1. APOGEE'S HOME BBS: THE SOFTWARE CREATIONS BBS
Software Creations BBS has been voted North America's most popular BBS two
years in a row by the readers of Boardwatch Magazine. It was also featured on
the TV show Prime-Time Live in December 1993. Apogee's releases are available
here before they're available anywhere else in the world!
To download any Apogee game, call one of the three numbers listed below. Then,
look in the free Apogee file section, #1. Type "F 1" to see a listing of the
files. These are free downloads, and you do not need a membership.
(508) 365-2359 -- 2400 baud Over 130 lines
(508) 368-7036 -- 9600-14.4K v.32bis available, and
(508) 365-4035 -- 28.8k v.fast class (v.fc) growing fast!
Software Creations also has an ftp site from which you can get our releases
quickly! ftp to swcbbs.com, and look in the /pub/apogee directory. (Make
sure to also check the uploads directory, just in case the SWC people haven't
had a chance to move it to the Apogee directory.
2. America Online - Use the keyword "apogee" to go to our forum.
3. CompuServe - Type "go apogee" (at any ! prompt) to find Apogee's games.
4. Internet - Apogee's titles can be access via anonymous FTP at our official
ftp site. The site is "ftp.uml.edu", and the directory they can
be found in is (case important) "msdos/Games/Apogee".
5. Fidonet Filebone - If you are a Fidonet SysOp, you can now get Apogee's
games on the Fido filebone. Talk to your local filebone
hub about the four Apogee areas (see FILEBONE.NA for more
information).
Files in this Release
=====================
To assist in your search, here is a listing of the files as released from
Apogee. All BBS files from Apogee bear a PKZip -AV stamp. If your file does
not say "Authentic Files Verified #TRH 310 - Apogee Software" when you
decompress it, it's possible you do not have the original unmodified file. If
in doubt, call Software Creations. They will always have the original files as
released from Apogee. The file sizes provided is what they are as they are
released from Apogee. The actual size you download might vary a few k on the
larger side due to .ZIP comments being added as the file goes between here and
you. So long as the -AV stamp remains intact, you can be sure that the file
is original. However, if the file does not bear the -AV stamp, it is not in
it's original form as released from Apogee Software.
Apogee strongly requests (but does not demand) that you please leave our files
intact when you carry them on your BBS. This way your callers can be
absolutely ensured that they are getting the geniune article. If you have any
concerns about this, please write to Joe Siegler at joe.s...@swcbbs.com.

Why does my AWE32 refuse to have digitised sound effects and EMU music?
I really dont want to hear FM music anymore... Version 1.0 worked fine.
It says there is an IRQ conflict, but I havent changed anything and it
works with every other game that supports the AWE32.
Apart from this 1.1 is a much improved game - it just feels so much
better to play for some reason.
Stewar
This is what I did...
PORT - 220
IRQ - 5
DMA - 1
FX mix - 3
Anything else on there really don't matter to much - it's
up to you!

I really enjoyed SimCity and SimCity 2000 as well. But.... DO NOT BUY
SIMEARTH!!!! I bought the game, and returned it after 1 day. I expected
a game that would be like SimCity, but it really isn't. In fact, the
game will play just fine without any user input!!! Try SimFarm or one of
the other more recent Sim games.
(Of course this is just my opinion....)

So why doesn't v1.1 shareware of Rott work while v1.0 does under
the same environment? Huh?
Same problem here. I have a 386DX40 with 5 megs of ram, and the game just
keeps crashing (Although the guys DO move more like humans now, instead
of sliding around).

Yet, unlike with "Doom", only the first two buttons of my Gravis Gamepad
are supported. I think this is worth being fixed as well.

-> Yet, unlike with "Doom", only the first two buttons of my Gravis
-> Gamepad are supported. I think this is worth being fixed as well.
This is not true. You can assign any of the 4 buttons on the GamePad to
anything and EVEN assign a double click option to any of the 4 buttons.
George Broussard, Apogee
I think you must be mistaken. I've got my Gravis PC GamePad plugged into
the back of my SoundBlaster and it supports all four buttons. You also have
to make sure the switch on the bottom of the GamePad is pushed over to the
right side. Once this is done, make sure you have Enable Joystick AND
Enable GamePad selected in ROTT. You can then assign whatever functions
you like each of the four buttons. You can even assign functions to
double-clicking a button. Hat's off to the people who developed the controls
for ROTT v1.1 they really have improved it a lot. I can play without having to
mess with the keyboard any more. Nice!
So check your configuration and make sure you plug it directly into the joystick
port. Don't go through a Y-Cable because that will rob you of your 4-button
capability.
Good Luck,
-=[ 7 ]=-
I originally bought a standard Y-cable and experienced problems with two
joystick support and full button support. I have since bought a Gravis Y-cable
which appears to fully support my two gamepads and all four buttons on
both gamepads. I ran the test utility provided with the gamepads and here
is what I found after the initial calibration for both gamepads:
- positioning and centering worked fine.
- four button operation worked fine for both gamepad 1 and 2. Setting
the mode to normal or turbo worked fine as well.
The only thing I'm not sure of is whether you can use both gamepads at the same
time and have four button support on both, or if four button support means
that you can only use one gamepad at a time.

Disclaimer:
*** Opinions expressed are my own, no one else wants to hear them ***
You're right. I used to enable Joystick only *blush*. Silly me.
Well, thanks to you, and my apologies to Apogee.
Cheers, Burkhard
