I just received an email from someone working for IBM which says, that
Merlin will be on the next DevCon (#11) due out in October.
If this is not good news!
Cheers
Mark .

PS:
Windows code will not be included in this copy of Merlin.
It this the GA merlin about to be released or is it the last bete (or
gamma?)
If I remember correctly, IBM put a "late beta" of Warp on DevCon just
after Warp went GA.
Thanks,
Mike

I am sorry. I can't tell you any more. My source in IBM Australia has
only very vage information, too.
I hope it is the GA and not the beta and I also hope that this copy
will include all the extras of the normal GA.
Cheers

I hope it's a GA version. As I've understood MS supplies their developers kit with
NT both beta's and GA's. Plus developers should be encouraged to support the
new features of the new version of an OS.
Can you who received the mail confirm is this is the GA on devcon 11 and when
in October it's comming?
Yours sincerely,

There was a post on the Talklink Devcon forum today saying that 11 was about
to start shipping and that US customers should expect it to start arriving
~16th Sept.
I guess that those of us not in the US will have to wait the normal two months
for IBM to get their act together to ship us ours.

Sorry. I already tried to get a little bit more specific information.
Unfortunatly it seems as if the IBM people here in Australia weren't
told all the details yet... :-(
But anyway. I'll wait with buying Merlin till I get my DevCon to see
what version of Merlin it includes.
Now anyone already got their DevCon #11? Which version of Merlin does
it contain? I'm need to device if I should buy Merlin or just wait
for the DevCon #11 distribution.

Oops. Should have stayed home today. What I wanted to say was: "I need
to decide if I should order Merlin now or just wait for the DevCon #11
Some people have already received it. Even in Europe (shock, horror)!!
The Merlin on DevCon 11 is a special that does not contain the Win-OS/2 code
(so no licence fee to MS). AFAIK this will not be available elsewhere.
Grr.. I wish I would have.. no sign for me in Sweden..

Does a headset come with it?
nope. installed this weekend. least painful installation i have ever performed.
easier than win 3.1. seems faster than 3.0. _Very_ colourful and much nicer looking.
Many many little idiocyncratic problems are resolved, yet some yet remain.
i had not planned on upgrading a few of my computers, but after seeing 4.0 I think I will.
Only wish ibm would have done this 2 years ago.
still playing with voice. my opinion: it's the future, it's good to be first, still a little
slow (pentium 100 w/64Mg ram, wide scsi). there is a distinc pause betwee saying open
folder and the folder opening. probably very little, but noticable when compared
to clicking with a mouse. don't think it will be really usable for another 2-3 years,
at least when it will outperform keyboard/mouse. voice was obnoxious until i learned that you
could stop where you are at and continue at a later time (duh!). and that my microphone
was not putting out a strong enough signal.
beside this, looks like they did a very very nice job.
so much for my opinioin...

It's the normal version without Windows support.
