Is anyone using the NewsGroups reader app?

I have not been successful in getting any groups from eternal-september.

Thanks for your help.

Occasionally, but not with e-s

The usual problem with any newsreader and e-s is configuring it to
authenticate when the server doesn't request authentication, if the
client doesn't authenticate then the server only gives a small subnet of
available groups.

I have it configured exactly the same way I have Thunderbird configured.

I don't get any groups at all.

Doesn't work for me either. I've tried several newsreaders, and none of them
find ANY groups on E-S.
I used the settings you suggested (again!) thinking maybe something was
entered incorrectly. Nope, same results. I don't see any other settings than
those, and when I pull down on the top bar, then "Release to refresh", there
are still no groups listed :-(

Let me follow-up on that last reply- I can "Add" new groups manually, and
then get into read the posts, but it never auto-finds any groups.

I want to thank you for your post. It made me look at the app again, and
maybe it was the updated program itself, but I never saw the additional
settings button at the bottom of the screen that allows one to manually add
a group. All is well in newsland again :-)

You found that this App does not give you the list of groups to choose from,
you have to search for them to add.

Pleased you are both sorted.

Isn't that the way it is meant to be, only getting the groups
that you want to subscribe to thus saving space and memory

Probably so. I just assumed (yes, I know what that means LOL) that it would
automatically get the list of groups from the server, then you could pick
the ones you wanted to subscribe to. I guess I'm trying to use a desktop
mentality on a tablet, and not always succeeding :-)

It would be nice if you could enter say alt.comp.* and get a list of
newsgroups in the alt.comp hierarchy.

Handle what, a display of all the groups in alt.comp?

Once you get the list, you then subscribe to the one(s) you want.
