I used to recommend this Google Play Automatic phone call recorder freeware
o Automatic Call Recorder, by Appliqato
o <https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appstar.callrecorder>

The free version used to be limited to 200 files (where it automatically
cycled back to overwrite #001 after #200, which was perfect for me since it
was just there for emergency reasons) and it wrote to the external sd card
(which can be up to 2TB) so memory use wasn't at all an issue.

Since I wipe out my phone about monthly, I decided to try the latest
update, where ... OMG ... does it suck! It forces you to watch a video ad,
of all things (Jesus, freeware is going in the wrong direction, IMHO).

Looking around, I found this call recorder freeware which doesn't seem to
be limited (not that the 200-phone-call limit mattered), and which has zero
ads!
o Call Recorder - Simple call recorder, no ads, open-source, by Axet
o <https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.github.axet.callrecorder/>

*What automatic call recorder freeware do you use?*
Does your current automatic call recorder display obnoxious ads?

The legality of call recorders is well known and is completely off topic
for this thread (where experience shows that those people who hprove to
have no technical background love to change the topic to their personal
legal fears where they usually prove to know almost nothing about legal
issues in general, and which specifically change with the juristiction of
each person on the call).

UPDATE (cross reference link)
As users here know, I strive for cross references so that _others_ can more
easily find the information I purposefully helpfully post, where it's good
to know that even with the x no archive bit set by the OP in that thread
asking the same question I asked here, there is now a reference link:
o Re: Call recorder for the UK?
<https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/comp.mobile.android/_Gmo2K4GmeE>

It may be that I'm the only one using automatic call recorders, or, that
there are no better ones than the one I currently use though, as,
uncharacteristically, nobody has more information than what is already in
this thread (which isn't much).

UPDATE:
<https://i.postimg.cc/GhpWzprM/callrecorder05.jpg>

This post from slb indicates Google changed 'something' in Android 9 (Pie)
for unrooted call recording capabilities, which is confirmed in a search:
<https://groups.google.com/d/msg/comp.mobile.android/_Gmo2K4GmeE/C2XUGqa1AAAJ>

However, this post from me shows on my unrooted Moto G7 (on what is often
termed "almost stock" Motorola Android 9), free automatic call recording
appears to work just fine.
<https://groups.google.com/d/msg/comp.mobile.android/_Gmo2K4GmeE/8P9mXpTSAAAJ>

Hence, I'm a bit confused why my freeware call recorder works just fine:
<https://i.postimg.cc/d096z8jG/callrecorder06.jpg>

But what I came here to add are some other freeware call recorder apps:
o Here's How You Can Continue Using Call Recording Apps On Android Pie & Q
<https://beebom.com/workarounds-android-pie-call-recording-limitation/>

That article suggests these 3 free call recorder app links below:
1. Cube Recorder ACR (free, has ads, GSF dependent)
<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?hl=en&id=com.catalinagroup.callrecorder>
Note: Interestingly so, this app claims it can automatically record your
incoming & outgoing phone calls, Skype, Viper & WhatsApp calls.
2. Call Recorder ¡V ACR (free, has ads, GSF dependent)
<https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/nll/call-recorder-acr/call-recorder-acr-32-9-unchained-release/call-recorder-acr-32-9-unchained-android-apk-download/>
<com.nll.acr_33.1-unChained-10331_minAPI21(arm64-v8a,armeabi-v7a)(nodpi)_apkmirror.com.apk>
Note: Interestingly so, the app claims it's not possible to record
Wi-Fi calls, social app calls, adn dialing app calls.
Note: I don't know why the article lists the APKmirror link when it's
on Google Play, apparently at this location:
<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nll.acr>
3. Call Recorder by Boldbeast (free, no ads, GSF dependent)
<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.boldbeast.recorder>

In addition, there are these free apps which the article didn't mention:
o Automatic Call Recorder, by Appliqato
<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appstar.callrecorder>

And, the free app I use on my non-rooted Moto G7 with Android 9 (Pie):
o Call Recorder - Simple call recorder, no ads, open-source, by Axet
o <https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.github.axet.callrecorder/>

And, a quick search just now in Aurora shows 10 free call recorders
<https://i.postimg.cc/GhpWzprM/callrecorder05.jpg>

Namely:
o Call Recorder - Cube ACR
<com.catgalinagroup.callrecorder> (has ads, GSF dependent)
o Automatic Call Recorder
<com.appstar.callrecorder> (has ads, GSF dependent)
o Automatic Call Recorder
<com.callrecord.auto> (has ads, GSF dependent)
o Call Recorder - Automatic Call Recorder
<call.recorder.automatic.acr> (has ads, GSF dependent)
o Call Recorder
<com.enlightment.voicecallrecorder> (has ads, GSF dependent)
o Call Recorder- Automatic Call Recorder
<com.smsrobot.callrecorder> (has ads, GSF dependent)
o Call Recorder S9 - Automatic
<com.smsrobot.callu> (has ads, GSF dependent)
o Automatic Call Recorder
<com.q4u.autocallrecorder> (has ads, GSF dependent)
o Call Recorder

o Call Recorder ACR

UPDATE:

Do not use the Google Play version of the "NLL" ACR as it's crippled.

You can't use the any version on the NLL site either, as Google won't allow
them to post the unchained version on the developers' site either.

Instead, use the "ACR Unchained" version, which is widely available:
<https://nllapps.com/apps/acr/google-denies-phone-number-accesss.htm>

Essentially,
o As of March 9, 2015, Google no longer allows ACRs "CALL LOG" permission.
o This cripples ACR's ability to show the phone number of the conversation.
o This only affects the Google Play version (which means it's crippled).
o Google won't even allow the company to have their own download link.
o Google won't allow the company to work around the problem either.
o So you have to get the unchained APK outside those two canonical sites.
o The developers suggest Huawei's App Gallery and Samsung's Galaxy Store
o An independent article suggested the APK Mirror link that I dug up.

Essentially the Google Play version of the NLL Apps ACR is crippled, while
the "unchained" version widely available outside their site is the fully
functional app that you'll want to obtain - explained in more detail here:

UPDATE:

I accidentally found another call recorder in the strangest place just now:
o Super Backup & Restore, by MobileIdea Studio
<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts>

I was researching which freeware apps back up SMS/MMS messages, call
history, bookmarks, calendars, contacts, & recorded calls, for this thread:
o *What free non-root Android backup & restore solution do you recommend*
*for general use?*
<https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/comp.mobile.android/jZ8IxxgXFys>

After installing "Super Backup & Restore", I noticed it asked me if I
wanted it to act as my automatic call recorder.

o Where, people who don't cite their facts, are almost always wrong (IMHO)

Since they're "just guessing"...

Yet, given the "fingerprint" of the OP's utter lack of energy invested
o I suspect this is (yet another) credibility troll of the puppet master

Hence, I'll be uncharacteristically brief in my response
o As we've covered this, in gory detail (& with Joerg) in the archives.

Joerg Lorenz is (again) dead wrong - where he's immune to facts already presented him
o Yet, even NY is only partially correct (as specific laws differ among entities).

Nonetheless, for _adults_ interested in this topic, a search should find it
o As there's nothing of value (I suspect) to be had by rehashing it anew.

You're a bit late to the party.. I've been using ACR for over a year
or so now. I even registered my copy. it's worth the small fee.

That varies from state to state. Where I live, as long as one of us
knows the call is being recorded, it's all good. since I know the
call is recorded, I don't legally have to disclose that to you. lol.

when have you ever done that Arlen?

When are you going to do that?

uk? Umm...Well, I suppose those in the UK may wanna know if it's
legal to record a call or not...

Hmm. I suppose it's possible we have two different programs with the
same name here, but the Automatic Call recorder software on my
android phone isn't 'freeware'. It's ad supported with some features
disabled unless you pay for it. As I wrote previously though, the
program I've been using for a good amount of time now works well and
wasn't expensive. I haven't used a single extra feature the entire
time I've had it, but I'm happy to support authors who make good
software, too.
