Hello, Dr. [recipient deleted],
Arthur T. "Mentifex" Murray here with an AI progress report.

Yesterday on Mon.29.JUL.2002 an upgrade parity was achieved between
http://mind.sourceforge.net/mind4th.html -- Mind.Forth AI -- and
http://mind.sourceforge.net/index.html -- the Tutorial AI.

"Change.log" entries in each AI source code file indicate the
most recent developments, and I summarize them as follows:
- introduction of a primitive but "growable" Parser module;
- major expansion of the English bootstrap with key concepts;
- introduction of "negSVO" syntax for negational sentences.

All these changes constitute a sort of "eggshell" or
circumscribed area in which the baby AI may now grow
and approach the enlarged boundaries in which it finds itself.
The English bootstrap now includes thirty-six (36) unique words
carefully chosen in fulfillment of some ambitious criteria,
such as providing the five most frequently occurring English words
and, especially, making available the words most critical for
the mechanisms of reasoning and verbal thought, e.g.: "if, then";
"why? because"; etc.

As a few more syntax structures are implemented, I look forward
to releasing Mind-1.1 as an enhanced AI that constantly takes
stock of its own knowledge base (KB) and engages any willing
human conversationalist in give-and-take discussions that
augment both the knowledge and the self-awareness of the AI.
Perhaps most importantly for the spread and speciation of the
free AI into the wild, the immortalizing Rejuvenate module
seems to be working either flawlessly or well enough that
interested parties may henceforth vie or compete for the
distinction of hosting the longest-running AI Mind.

And that's the news from Lake AI-Begone.

With best wishes,

Sincerely,

Arthur T. Murray
