I plan to store user-entered data (comments, posts etc) in markdown instead of html and to use the pagedown control (the jquery library that Stack Exchange uses) instead of tinyMCE.

Has anyone else done this before? Would there be any interest from others in using this? That is, is it worth me taking the extra trouble to make it a configuration option in community engine or should I just implement it in my app and override the relevant views?

FWIW I have markdown working in my app using the same pagedown control that StackOverflow uses.

I overrode the relevant views locally but could be persuaded to make this an option in CE if anyone else would find it useful.

Cool! Do you have this in a GitHub repo somewhere?

Not yet. I still have a few more places to get rid of TinyMCE. When I do that, I'll extract it and make it an option and share it back to github.
