Reminder, there is an upcoming workshop with room for 50 participants in total on Tuesday, Nov. 3rd in San Mateo, California, USA.

The workshop features the CWL co-founders: Peter Amstutz, John Chilton, Nebojša Tijanić, and myself.

(Please excuse the URL, this is not the CWL codefest that is happening the next day in nearby Santa Clara)

Attendance is free if you register before next Wednesday, October 28th, using this link: http://bit.ly/1NgcUSB

Excellent news Michael.
Unfortunately I cannot attend this workshop. But maybe something similar could be organised in Europe at some point ;)
Cheers,
Hervé

Thank you Hervé,

When would be a good time for a workshop in Europe? Would the Pasteur Institute be able to host?

Hello Michael,
I guess that having this workshop in springtime would be the best option, because it would give a meeting opportunity halfway between the california workshop and the GCC/BOSC hackathons. Of course, Institut Pasteur could be hosting it. Do you have an idea on how many people would come, on a very rough scale: 10, 100, 500?
Cheers,
Hervé

Sounds like a good time for it.

Are there other meetings, or conferences in Europe that we could co-schedule/co-locate with?

I would guess that the number of attendees would be more than 10 and less than 100; probably a maximum of 50.

Hello Michael & CWLers,
50 people can definitely be handled for Pasteur. Speaking of collocation, Jon, Kristoffer (ELIXIR-DK, cced) and I think that it take the form of a joint workshop including people from the ELIXIR registry community and various workbench/workflow tools represented here.
Something along these lines:
"Technical Hackathon : Tools, Workflows and Workbenches"
"A hackathon bringing together developers from the ELIXIR Tools & Data Services Registry, Galaxy, Taverna, Arvados, CWL,
ReGaTE and EDAM ontology, with Galaxy instance providers from ELIXIR and beyond, to promote collaboration and technical
developments."
We could also, of course, host it in Pasteur as a CWL-dedicated event, if you think it's the best option.
What do you think?
Cheers,
Hervé

I like the joint workshop idea, it is better to engage a broad community than be CWL specific.  I suggest at least 2 days, maybe 3 if it is a dedicated event not attached not any other conferences.  I think there is going to be enough interest that you should pick a date and start getting organized.

Thanks,
Peter

Fantastic, I think there's tremendous scope if we can join forces, so I'm really all-for a joint workshop. It'll be
challenging ... but fun.

And I agree a workshop over 3 days, e.g. Wed lunch -> Fri lunch works well.

Looking forward!

Jon

I agree that this sounds like a brilliant idea!

I should try to include some people from the ELIXIR Accelerate project as well.
