I went out to the DIA Owl Loop area yesterday (6/17/2012) looking for Burrowing Owls. Even though I went out during the hot afternoon, I was able to find one at the usual 3.4 mi east of 96th and Tower location, sitting on a fencepost. A little disappointing, but so it goes.

Much better viewing at the prairie dog town on the northeast corner of 112th and Tower: Two Burrowing Owls sitting on top of their holes within 60-70 feet of the road. Neat.

Inspired by Barry's post yesterday, my friend Sharon and I went to the two places where he reported Burrowing Owls. We found them at both places early this morning, but went on to 114th and Queensburg, near the burn-out planes that the DIA fire department uses for training. Just 40-50 feet north of that intersection we saw two adult Burrowing Owls and four owlets on and near their burrow. One of the adults hovered nicely for photographs several times.
