Thanks to Setta Moss, I found the acorn woodpeckers at Pubelo Mtn. Park yesterday. They were right on the advertised. Working away on their granary tree. I hope it holds up thru the winter winds as it's a big, tall, old, brittle, ponderosa! I may be mistaken, but I think I saw three acorns. I've read where they have extended family groups. I couldn't make all three individuals, but there were definitely three similar woodpeckers on a nearby tree. Perhaps there's a a family affair going on up there. I hope so. What beautiful birds. Great location, too. But what a fire prone area in such a dry year. Hope they have a great wet winter. Lots of gambel oak around. Not a huge crop of acorns, however.
