Hi all, its been a little while since I have been on here.

My cider orchard is now up to 100 trees of various types up to 4 years old (to be fair more about collecting different types rather than thinking about the type of Cider I will get)

I am clearing my big shed - which is about 30ft by 20ft. My aim is to set up my cider production in there later this year.

I currently have a traditional style press that has been rigged with a 20 tonne hydraulic ram and use a fruit shark for scratting.

looking forward (and living in hope of large crops in the future) I might end up needing to automate a bit more. A couple of years back I processed 5 tonnes of apples using the fruit shark and a (don't laugh) 30 litre screw press - I would not want to do that again that's for sure!

I have 240v in my shed on a 64Amp supply. What would people suggest for that step up from just hobby production. Most of the "oooohhhh shiny" equipment I have seen online is 3 phase. Is there any single phase equipment out there that is any good and worth investing in.

many thanks

Just a thought but the hydropresses don't need electricity never mind 3-phase...? ;-)

Otherwise you can do what a few of us have done, buy a 3-phase & convert to single phase? If you shop around for prices you can convert something like a Voran 100P for less than the cost some suppliers want for the same model.

Good luck!

Ray.

Hi Lee

I use a Voran WALC on 240V single phase and also a 100P2 press (this was 3 phase when I bought it but I swapped the motor out for a single phase one at a cost of about £100 easy to do oneself - it just needed a new on off switch for a couple of quid)
