Swami Ramsukhdas's Hindi Commentary* - अपरस्परसम्भूतं किमन्यत् कामहैतुकम् -- वे कहते हैं कि स्त्रीको पुरुषकी और पुरुषको स्त्रीकी कामना हो गयी। अतः उन दोनोंके परस्पर संयोगसे यह संसार पैदा हो गया। इसलिये काम ही इस संसारका हेतु है।

नमो विद्वद्भ्यःCan so many great scholars go wrong for 1200+ years in the interpretation/ translation of a term that is pregnant with meaning -अत्र विद्वांसः प्रमाणम् --
Before concluding that so many learned commentators were all affected by pramāda (the “impressive” list of the “accussed” includes the founder of almost every influential Sampradāya in India, in addition to modern writers and leaders of “societies”), I recommend we consider the possibility that the commentators have taken suṭ in aparaspara in BG 16.8 to be Ārṣa. This is likely since not only PS 6.1.144, but the Amarakoṣa also notes that –
कर्म क्रिया तत्सातत्ये गम्ये स्युरपरस्पराः (AK 3.2.231)
So if all these commentators, most of whom knew both Amarakoṣa and Aṣṭādhyāyī by heart and quoted from the texts liberally, offered an explanation which does not conform to the two texts, my view is that they have concluded aparaspara in BG 16.8 to be Ārṣa usage and accordingly held that PS 6.1.144 and AK 3.2.231 do not apply. They have not explicitly stated so, but that is my humble conclusion on reading that many amongst them offer a Vigraha like aparaśca paraśca (अपरश्च परश्च) and yet give the meaning of अन्योऽन्य and not सातत्य as per Amarakoṣa and Aṣṭādhyāyī.
प्रसङ्गेऽस्मिन् तेषां मते सुडार्ष इति बोध्यम्.
My Guru’s commentary offers a grammatical explanation of अपरस्पर in BG 16.8 by पृषोदरादि argument, which is different from the explanation by PS 6.1.144. The below extract can be used to explain or justify the view of all previous commentators who have not offered the सातत्य meaning –
श्रीराघवकृपाभाष्यम्
संस्कृत - अपरस्मादितरपुरुषात्परस्मिन्नन्यकलत्रे सम्भूतं शास्त्रविहितगर्भाधानवर्जितम्
हिन्दी - ‘अपरस्मात् परस्मिन् कलत्रे सम्भूतम्’ इस विग्रह में सुप्सुपा समास और पृषोदरादित्वात्
‘सुट्’ आगम हुआ।
http://jagadgururambhadracharya.org/pdfs/JR1998GitabhasyamII.pdf
In addition, several commentators and authors have noted the relevance of PS 6.1.144 in this context. Nīlakaṇṭha’s interpretation is as per PS 6.1.144 only (which Dr. Korada has pointed out, whether he agrees or not with Nīlakaṇṭha is a different matter). Another commentator, Dhanapati Sūri (in his Bhāṣyotkarṣadīpikā) has contradicted Nīlakaṇṭha’s explanation and has also quoted the extract with PS 6.1.144 from Nīlakaṇṭha (again one may agree or disagree with him, but he has considred the possibility of applying PS 6.1.144) –

More than 60 years ago, Sahajānanda Sarasvatī wrote in the Gītāhṛdaya (first edition publised in late 1940s) –
I do not have the full reference now, but the work can be read here –

Prof. Vineet Chaitanya has already pointed out Mahārājaśrī Akhaṇḍānanda
Sarasvatī’s explanation.
One thing to note is that saints like of Sahajānanda Sarasvatī and Mahārājaśrī Akhaṇḍānanda Sarasvatī were among the greatest scholars of India in the 20th century. Despite offering a different explanation by PS 6.1.144, they have not stated that all previous explanations were mistranslations or misinterpretations. In my opinion, the claim that a verse has been misunderstood by everybody for 1200 years by everybody is quite “revolutionary,” and many traditionalists may not accept it. I leave it to other scholars on the list to offer their views.
1) As per PS 1-3-22 समवप्रविभ्यः स्थः, the root ष्ठा (स्था) gets आत्मनेपद when followed by प्र. Hence the correct form is प्रतिष्ठते and not प्रतिष्ठति.
2) The word being explained is धर्म which is masculine. Hence the use of अनया in feminine is wrong and it should be अनेन instead.
Please correct the two mistakes above.
In addition, it may be added that the above derivation is as per PS 3-3-117 करणाधिकरणयोश्च - I assume you have this in mind as the instrumental case is used and since प्रतिष्ठान has the ल्युट् suffix which is ordained by PS 3-3-117.
May I ask you to please clarify –
1) What is meant by स्त्रीपुरुषयोः संयोगः अविच्छेदेन गच्छति? Whence, where and how does this संयोग go (गच्छति)?
2) The meaning जगदपि अविच्छेदेन वर्तते is the present tense, while the suffix used in the original सम्भूत is क्त, which is usually used in the past tense. This is clear from PS 3-2-102 निष्ठा. On this - क्तक्तवतू निष्ठा इत्युक्तं स निष्ठसंज्ञकः प्रत्ययो भूते भवति (काशिका). As per my limited knowledge, the only cases where क्त is used in the present tense are covered under PS 3-2-187 ञीतः क्तः and PS 3-2-188 मतिबुद्धिपूजार्थेभ्यश्च. None of these two seem to apply to सम्भूत. So by which Sutra does one get the word वर्तते in the present tense in the meaning for सम्भूत which is in the past tense?
Thanks, Nityananda

Now अपरस्परसंभूतम् -Panini instituted प्रत्ययs in वर्तमान , भूत , भविष्यत् , कालसामान्य etc." नित्यप्रवृत्ते च कालाविभागात् " - वार्तिकम्( महाभाष्यम्- वर्तमाने लट्-3-2-123)Here it is नपुंसके भावे क्तः in कालसामान्य - then अर्श आदित्वात् मत्वर्थीयः अच् -
So there is no need to go to छान्दसत्वम् / पृषोदरादित्वम् ।Things are clear .
So what you are implying is this (please correct me if I misunderstood your point) –
सम्भूयते इति सम्भूतम् as per PS 3-3-114 नपुंसके भावे क्तः.
अपरस्परेण सम्भूतम् अपरस्परसम्भूतम्. समास by PS 2-1-4 सह सुपा.
अपरस्परसम्भूतमस्य विद्यते इति अपरस्परसम्भूतम्. अच् by PS 5-2-127 अर्शआदिभ्योऽच्.
Now this is the counter-argument (again this is अनुद्वेगकर and there is no द्रोह, just evaluation of your arguments):
1) The अर्शआदिगण is an आकृतिगण (LSK on PS 5-2-127 अर्शआदिभ्योऽच् says अर्शोऽस्य विद्यते
अर्शसः। आकृतिगणोऽयम्).
2) The पृषोदरादिगण is also an आकृतिगण (SK on PS 6-3-109 पृषोदरादीनि यथोपदिष्टम् says आकृतिगणोऽयम्).
3) The set of all छान्दस usages is again not listed anywhere, and only on seeing a particular usage one can decide on it. So this is also an आकृतिगण, except that the usages are limited to Vedas.
The traditional interpretations assume छान्दस सुट्, or assume the usage to be an example of पृषोदरादि to arrive at a meaning. Your interpretation assumes the usage to be an example of अर्शआदि to arrive at a meaning. Ultimately both explanations resort to an आकृतिगण argument – from a purely grammatical point of view, none of them can be said to be superior to the other. A purist would rather say आकृतिगणाश्रयणं त्वगतिकगतिः, much on the lines of बाहुलकं त्वगतिकगतिः (Prauḍhamanoramā 3) and मण्डूकप्लुत्याश्रयणं त्वगतिकगतिः (Tattvabodhinī on PS 3-4-47 उपदंशस् तृतीयायाम्), and reject both.
If an argument is made that there is no need to take छान्दस सुट्/पृषोदरादि
in अपरस्पर when one can easily use PS 6-1-144 अपरस्पराः क्रियासातत्ये where things are clear, then the
equally strong (or equally weak) counter-argument is that there is no need to take अर्शआदि in the
compound अपरस्परसम्भूतम् when one can simply take क्त in कर्म and have a simple
तत्पुरुष with सम्भूत where things are clear.
From a Lokayata point of view, both interpretations, though different, make sense. What makes more sense and what not, is a subjective matter (unlike grammatical accuracy or strength, which is more objective thanks to the mathematical structure of Aṣṭādhyāyī).
Hence while new insights are welcome, it maybe a stretch to call 100 interpretations/translations as "misinterpretations" or "mistranslations" when the grammatical strength are not very different in the new insights.
The word discussed is interpreted by neelakantha in his comentary as per the paninisutra aparasparaah kriyaasaatatye. So this is not a new finding of sree Korada Subrahmanyamji.
It is wrong to say that this paninisutra was not taken into consideration while interpretting. The statement starting with since 1200years etc seems to be silly.
Yes. One can interpret differently. One can disagree with the existing interpretations. But how can one announce that all those are simply mistakes? Each comentator has their point of views . Aparaspra canbe interpreted in many ways. The word kamahaitukam is wrong as per Panini. Sut in aparaspara also maybe apaniniya. The very intention of the verse is the same in all the comentatries including Koradeeyam as far as i understud.
I requist you Please dont misinterpret my intention.

2. those who took it as नञ्समास
3. those who quoted Panini but did not take the original meaning
or still others who went awry .
In which commentary is it at least hinted that it is an आर्षप्रयोग ?
If there is any difference in the form, and not meaning, of a Sabda then only, we call it आर्ष ।Unless and until you quote a single or more commentaries and apply आर्ष , what is the purpose of such discussion ?
Are you not setting aside all others when you resort to one commentary to apply आर्ष ?I did not show any disrespect to any commentator .
आकृतिगण can never be considered on a par with आर्ष / पृषोदरादि ।
The situation is that one cannot take any single commentary (or two) and claim it is correct .By selecting one , please note, you are belittling others - same coin .

नमो विद्वद्भ्यः
Sir, having very well understood your vyaakhyaanam, i ask again the same question that-
as per the vigraha apare cha pare cha , the agent of the action sambhavanam must be plural. Here it is singular -jagath. And if jagath is the agent it cannot be connected to a term which entered into a compound especially saamaanaadhikaranyena. My english is poor. I hope you may pick my argument. It is very well given in my sanskrit post. "Gamakatvaat "and devadattasya gurukula are different and not relevent here. My arguement is this- the term aparaspara cannot be connected in a grammatically right way unless it is a synonim of satata.but grammatically it is impossibe to be so.please consider the point's i made in my skt post one by one and let us proceed. With respects..vishnunambutiri.
Sir, as per your quotation from amarakosa sudha, it is more clear that when the agents of a kriyaa are many , then only the usage occurs. The meaning of the term aparaspara is one by one. You cannot use this word for a single agent. The boy is going one by one. Is it correct?. In our context, the agent jagath is singular.please note that both in panini and amarakosa the term is given in plural. And the exampls are also in plural. I dont think it as an unintentional.
The term कामः already has got the meaning - स्त्रीपुंसयोः मिथुनीभावः- then why to say it again ?Samkaracarya --किंच, अपरस्परसंभूतं कामप्रयुक्तयोः स्त्रीपुरुषयोः अन्योन्यसंयोगात् जगत् सर्वं संभूतम् । किमन्यत् कामहैतुकम् कामहेतुरेव कामहैतुकं

I did not take अपरस्पर as a synonym of नैरन्तर्य । The सुडागम denotes the sense of क्रियासातत्यम् or क्रियानैरन्तर्यम् | इति कोराडवाक्यम् ।
