India seminar Boston, request for help

Dear friends,

Good morning.

We are proceeding for our seventh seminar in the series

"Let us explore the Cultural History of India" on Nov 2.

The seminar will cover the period 1800AD-1947AD.

Anybody in this list is invited to attend as our guest.

I have a request to make.  For the occasion I wish to

compile the principal freedom songs in all the local

languages.  I need pointers to two each in a language.

It would help if you can send me the youtube link or

the lyrics with a synopsis.  I will appreciate receiving

the information by Oct 25.

According to what I have read, Savarkar was in England as a student when he composed this poem.  It was later set to music by Hridaynath Mangeshkar and sung by the entire Mangeshkar family, and it has become by far the most popular patriotic song in Marathi.  Here is the Marathi text and its English translation I found on the web:

 जयोऽस्तु ते श्रीमहन्मंगले । शिवास्पदे शुभदे

स्वतंत्रते भगवति। त्वामहं यशोयुतां वंदे

राष्ट्राचे चैतन्य मूर्त तूं नीति संपदांची

I need two poems in each Indian language written before 1947 that we think would have national importance.

Please check back in your memory and consider in view of the national awakening.

I have now gotten items in Urdu, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Bengali and Odia. I have recruited singers.

Need help with Malayali, Kannada, Gujarati, Hindi and any other local language.

Please send the date of composition.

While I appreciate people helping, I do see friends not being particular about the details.

This has been the stark difference between the old Indian scholarship and the new

India's scholarship.  Let me again write what I need.

1.  I want to compile a collection of poems written in pre-independence India with the

     intent of liberation. 

.2. We do it in BVP with our input that the songs had affected us and we remember

     either through our family or through our schooling.

I hope I succeed in collecting this information.  I have to wrap up by the 25th.

Since we are in the process of "India Discovery"  the experiment also gives me a

glimpse of what the attitude to research is now compared to when I left forty five

years ago.  We seem to care for words that were written more than a thousand years

ago and not care for events a hundred years ago!  We have to dig ourselves deeper

for India's shine in world.  Let our memory be sharp and let our research teach!

We can't just be hopeful, we are the signature of the country!

Please help what you can.  I appreciate.
