Hello everyone,

Can anyone recommend good drawing courses in Brighton for a complete
beginner? Or any other resources..

Thanks a lot!

Hi Dasha

I did this one at Evolution http://www.evolutionarts.org.uk/learning with Bern
O’Donoghue and recommend it/her.

She follows the learning techniques in "Drawing on The Right Side Of The
Brain" http://www.drawright.com/

Also worth looking at is Jake Spicer: http://brightondrawing.tumblr.com/

He gave a talk at TEDx last year about learning to draw. This involved
getting the audience to do some life drawing:

Cheers,
Paul

Dash,

If you want to learn to draw, *just start drawing*. Everyday. A lot. Learn
to be observant. If you can "see" better, you can draw better, just like
one can sing better if one listens more accutely. Try not to look at the
paper too long if you're drawing from observation (10s seconds of looking +
1 second of drawing on paper). Life drawing is the best drawing excercise
for lots of reasons (it's easy to learn about proportion and underlying
structure, you'll notice a badly drawn face 10 times faster than an oddly
rendered shoe and naked people are a pleasure to watch...)

If you want an excellent discipline to mimic, look at Chris Wares' book The
acme novelty date book: sketches and diary pages in
facsimile<http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?q=The+Acme+Novelty+Date+Book:+Sketches+and+Diary+Pages+in+Facsimile&hl=en&prmd=imvns&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.,cf.osb&ix=sea&ion=1&biw=1264&bih=1414&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=7397449578234691096&sa=X&ei=eu9pT6n5AoTssgbw1cCFCA&ved=0CE4Q8wIwAA>
(get
the paper back, it's about $100 dollars less!) Lots of inspiration
drawings, plus personal notes on how he improves himself, setting tasks /
challenges / etc.

Good luck!

Hello everyone,

Thanks for the recommendations. I think I will go with the Evolution center
to start with. I've got the "Draw on the right side of the brain" book, but
never disciplined to do it on my own.

Thanks again :)

That's exactly why I did the course Dasha but the sad thing is I haven't
done any drawing since! Never "enough time" is there.
