What do y'all think of the idea of using a hosted version of
http://shapado.com/ for issues, proposed solutions, and commentary
around them?

Sure. Would this be exclusively for jbodau? Should we link the current
Lojban Shapado to our hosted one? Should we have one for jbodau and
one for newbie questions? Either way, it sounds interesting.

As far as I can tell, and correct me if I'm wrong, but shapado.com doesn't support structuring the discourse into issues > positions > arguments, which seems to be the central idea behind the Elephant.

It looks like the only advantage that shapado has over any old mailing list or web forum is that you can vote on posts.

The Elephant[1] is an old proposal for a piece of argument mapping software[2] specifically for the use of the BPFK.

Seems like it does to me; it's got questions, responses, and
threaded comments in response to the questions. We call those
issues, positions, and arguements, seems like about the same thing,
no?

Hmm! Yes, that could work. We just need ruthless administrators that remove arguments that are posted as top-level responses, or positions that are posted as comments. It's not perfect, but as we should know by now, perfection is the enemy of getting things done.

So are there any implementations of the Elephant now?

Compendium <http://compendium.open.ac.uk/institute> looks like the
nearest thing, though it doesn't have a browser/server architecture
Elephant was intended to.

bCisive Online is a hosted solution that costs anything from $0 for up
to 3 users to $175 a month for 25 users. Not exactly suitable for a
broad-based group.

But Shapado looks to me like remembering questions and answers,
not remembering debated issues and how they were resolved, which is
Elephant's remit. Still, the need for that is pretty much gone in the
Lojban community: we are no longer designing the language.
