UX/UI Designer at Tufts University in Somerville MA

 

The UX/UI designer enjoys wearing many hats by working across the UX spectrum. With a primary focus on designing visually engaging digital touchpoints that are easy to use, the person in this role leads the interface and interaction design of mobile friendly web application and websites, and develops responsive HTML/CSS templates that meet Tufts usability and web accessibility standards. The UX/UI designer also participates in requirements gathering and might assist with user research and usability testing. With strong communication skills, the UX/UI designer plays an active role in promoting Human-Centered Design best practices and mentoring colleague.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years of professional experience designing mobile-friendly web applications and websites
  • A portfolio of professional work samples is required, describing role and contribution for each project
  • Demonstrated ability to design prototypes, responsive interfaces, visual, and interaction designs that meet accessibility requirements at the WCAG 2.0 Level AA
  • Familiarity with gathering user, business and technical requirements with a Human-Centered Design approach
  • Ability to code responsive templates using HTML5, CSS3
  • Working knowledge of Drupal
  • Proficient with front-end web frameworks such as bootstrap and design and prototyping tools such as Sketch, Adobe Suite, Axure
  • Excellent writing, listening and communication skills
  • Attention to details and exceptional organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent, high-priority projects

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Lean UX and Service Design principles
  • Familiarity with usability testing and user research
  • Working knowledge of PHP, Javascript, Ajax, Sass
  • Familiarity with GitHub
  • Print design (InDesign, print production)
  • Experience in Higher Education or Educational Technologies realm
  • Teaching and mentoring skills
