OpenClinica is seeking a User Experience (UX) design intern that is passionate about defining, designing and testing great user experience for our clinical research technology products. You will work closely with our users and project team to engage and delight patients, healthcare providers, developers, and researchers. This position is located in the Waltham, MA office. The people at OpenClinica are dedicated to delivering powerful yet ease-to-use software and technology solutions for clinical research management. Our users tackle challenging clinical research problems, manage vast amount of data, and make difficult decisions to advance clinical research and improve patient outcomes. Clinical research management is a complex process that requires excellent user experience. To support our users and their missions, we are establishing a User Experience practice that focuses on building the right systems and services to make the complex simple for the users.

The UX design intern will be familiar with the user-centered design process to give color, life, and originality to the insights that come from user research. Working collaboratively, you will help instantiate ideas as prototypes of all levels of fidelity, and construct innovative yet practical interactions that meet the users’ needs.  

Key responsibilities include:
  • Create intuitive, efficient, and delightful experience for users by incorporating user research and feedback   
  • Design and deliver low- to high-fidelity sketches, wireframes and prototypes to communicate design solutions and drive implementation
  • Work as part of the UX team to define and maintain UX/UI standards that will ensure uniformity across all OpenClinica products
  • Assist with user research and testing on prototypes and released products to test hypotheses and iteratively improve our products

Required skills and experience:
You might be a good candidate for this position if you have (or are in school for)
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Psychology, Human Factors, or related disciplines  
  • Experience in UX/UI design or a related field with working knowledge of design techniques and tools
  • Proven track record of success working collaboratively with diverse teams
  • The aptitude to understand complex, technical issues
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
