MITRE’s internal Information Architecture and User Experience team is looking for someone who is passionate about user experience in all situations. You must also have a solid understanding of IA and user-centered design principles along with strong communication and leadership skills.

We are a team of passionate user experience professionals providing design and user engagement support for a range of projects including award winning intranet applications, knowledge and content management systems (such as SharePoint and Drupal), and exciting new mobile solutions. We are also working to improve the user experience of our physical collaboration spaces and we are experimenting with new technologies such as eye tracking and augmented reality (AR).

Key Functions:
  • Provide user experience design and information architecture expertise to create efficient and usable intranet and partner web sites
  • Create and validate innovative and easy-to-use solutions for wide range of products, from web sites and applications to mobile devices and physical spaces to dashboards and training material
  • Partner with graphic designers and developers to determine how best to implement design solutions
  • Manage processes to ensure that end users receive efficient and enjoyable products while customers receive excellent service from the inception of the project through completion
  • Serve as project manager and main POC for user experience work

Location:
Bedford, MA or McLean, VA

Required Skills:
  • Degree in Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, Information Science or related field plus 3-5 years current, demonstrable experience designing wireframes and information architectures for complex systems. Experience designing for corporate intranets is preferred. Portfolio required. 
  • Solid understanding of systems/software engineering practices, UX best practices, usability principles, and data analysis 
  • Excellent user engagement skills including experience drafting functional requirements, user stories, and personas, as well as evaluation techniques including heuristic review, user interviews, surveys, formal, informal and remote usability testing. The ability to communicate and translate research findings into concrete next steps for the product is critical. 
  • Proficiency in use of design tools such as Visio, Balsamiq, Axure or Photoshop 
  • Proven organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines, prioritize, and work on multiple projects simultaneously with great efficiency and attention to detail 
  • Solid project management skills including the drafting of schedules and identification of milestones and project deliverables 
  • Excellent visual, verbal, and written communication and presentation skills 
  • Ability to gain consensus among stakeholders without compromising the strategic design direction

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Design experience with SharePoint, WordPress, and/or Drupal is strongly desired 
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Web technologies such as CSS, HTML, and JavaScript is a plus, but not required. 
  • Agile and responsive design experience is appreciated 
  • Leadership or mentoring experience preferred

Travel Statement:
This position will require overnight travel up to 5 % of the time as well as some local travel.

Clearance:
Secret
