Hi Everyone,

We want a *very* healthy ecosystem of companies all benefiting from
and contributing to BigBlueButton.

As of BigBlueButton 0.7 (soon to be released), the desktop sharing
module will be available under the Limited GNU Public License V3.

Previously, the desktop sharing module was available under a dual
license: AGPL and a commercial license. Companies that wanted to
avoid the terms of the AGPL license could purchase a commercial
license from Blindside Networks.

While sales of the commercial license helped fund some of the initial
development of BigBlueButton, we feel that making it easier for other
companies to build products using BigBlueButton will accelerate its
adoption, and it's through widespread adoption that the ecosystem can
grow faster to everyone's benefit.

Regards,... Fred

I hope everyone realizes this, but I will just reiterate that this is a HUGE step for BigBlueButton.  The AGPL (for those who truly followed it correctly) could seriously hinder growth of BigBlueButton in the business market.  While educational facilities are the primary focus of BigBlueButton, and most of them would not have as dim a view of the AGPL, we will need business support to make the project a true success.

This is a VERY generous step taken by Fred, Richard, and all those at Blindside Networks.  Please don't forget to support them in any way you can as they continue to take the lead in creating a monumental open source project.  Perhaps you can hire them to create a custom module for you, or turn to them for some of their commercially-licensed modules, including monitoring of your BigBlueButton servers and professional support and technical services.
