We are pleased to announce BigBlueButton 2.3-alpha-2 (second release for 2.3.x)!

Hi Anton, will there be an upgrade path from 16.04 Ubuntu and BBB v2.2.xx to Ubuntu 18.04 and 2.3.x ? I would like to start testing this path as soon as it is available, possibly a new install script?

No plans to do an upgrade from 2.2 to 2.3.  The install of 2.3 is on Ubuntu 18.04 64-bit, so we recommend doing an install on a new server and then copying over the recordings from the older 2.2 server.  See

Found one issue, 

Disable/enable auto-arrange button becomes unclickable when the computer got disconnected from the internet and connects back.

I note that you didn't fix the issue with the processing of recordings that include a poll.

Do you have any idea when that may be fixed?

Hi Paul,

I see you being very insistent with this issue, nothing bad with that
but patience is a virtue and there are over 1.1 thousand issues on the
GitHub issue tracker. I suggest you provide concrete and detailed error
logs that will allow contributors to debug this better and understand
the root cause of the issue. I'm not a core contributor but I can
imagine that as a volunteer, this would certainly help me out and save
me time so I can actually *fix* the issue. You can always send in a pull
request, too.

2.3 is not a production build… its alpha under active development and Fred and team will be working over the next few months to complete.

It still needed to get to the Beta and the RC (Release Candidate) phase..

 

To get this fixed, would be best to comment the issue with as much data as possible.

 

Is it every poll or some polls?  If you look at the recording archive or process logs, do you see any errors?

If you look at the events.xml are there any polling events…

 

All this documented in the issue tracker will probably help it get solved, may be a simple thing.

 

Use 2.2.23 if you need production capabilities

Point taken. I/we are keen to see this fixed I know, but once again. Point taken. Yes every poll seems to block the processing of the recordings. It makes no difference how big the poll is, whether it is a custom poll or quick poll, it will for some strange reason block the recording from being processed. Fred di acknowledge the issue on Git, so I would imagine that he has a fairly good handle on what is going on, and yes I really do appreciate everything the developers are doing: thank you guys you are awesome.

Hi Paul,

We'll have it fixed in the next update to BigBlueButton 2.3-dev.  We're still focusing a lot of our effort on BigBlueButton 2.2, which has the biggest impact for any improvements.

We're periodically merging all updates for 2.2 into 2.3 to keep them in sync, so we should be able to move more quickly on 2.3 as development on 2.2 tapers off.

What about it? Could you please explain what you want to know as
bandwidth is a client/server property not related to BBB itself.

2.2 has a maximum of 100 participants. Anything greater than that, "you
get to keep both pieces", in other words, you are at your own risk. As
far as I'm aware, the new 2.3 will have official support for 150
participants. Also slight nit, BBB is an education tool, not a webinar
tool. They may have overlapping features, but bear in mind that features
(imo) should be aligned with this aim. So, expanding to 200 users is
less important than providing the student with a better UX, say.

As far as I know, the BBB interface is not working properly when more than 150 people are connected to the webinar. 

This isn't because of the server. This is because of a database that is used to store information about users. 

One of the developers wrote on the forum that in version 2.3 it will be possible to invite more participants (up to 300 people).

That's why I want to hear from the developers the answer to this question.
